SUMMARY

Provide instruction in the fundamentals of playing a musical instrument, including posture, note reading, rhythm, technical competency, and interpretation. This position is grant-funded.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for providing instruction and assigning repertoire that matches the level of each individual student. Develop and present a curriculum that provides students with an age-appropriate experience in the art form and challenges them to achieve at the highest level. Present a culminating event representing the quality of work undertaken over the course of the semester. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Bachelor’s Degree on the instrument to be taught and/or equivalent experience. Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for integrating students with varying stages of musical development. Ability to assess and grade students' progress. Advanced communication (verbal, written, and interpersonal) and organizational skills. Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population. Proven background in providing dynamic instruction with the ability to integrate industry, professional, and life experiences into a classroom environment, in both large and small groups.

The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The employee may sit comfortably while performing duties and perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard. There may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, or books. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. Special Note: This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with a set rate of pay: $42.00/hour.
