Advanced Practice Provider Neurosurgery

Overview Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants) provide comprehensive care to patients with a wide variety of brain and spine disorders on the inpatient Neurosurgery floor at a level one trauma center. Key Responsibilities Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in preoperative and postoperative settings. Serve as first responder to patient status changes, orders, procedural or resuscitative interventions. Work with neurosurgical attending and resident doctors to evaluate and consult patients in the Emergency Room and formulate treatment plans. Participate in perioperative care, including preparing patients for the operating room, placing post‑operative orders, and interpreting daily imaging and laboratory tests. Perform bedside procedures such as removal of surgical drains, sutures, programming shunts; and may receive training for central lines, arterial lines, lumbar drains, and external ventricular drains. Facilitate a quality hospital experience and outcomes for patients within a cost‑effective time frame. Oversee caseload of patients across the care continuum, including pre‑admission and post‑discharge when feasible. Act as educator, consultant, and liaison to other healthcare providers. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited APP program and eligibility to practice as an APP in Rhode Island. Current registration as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in Rhode Island. Advanced clinical knowledge and mastery of nursing theory and practice. Strong analytical ability, interpersonal skills, and proficiency in caring across the lifespan. Experience in a clinically intensive environment preferred; new graduates with relevant educational experiences may be trained. Prescriptive privileges per licensure and annual completion of safety infection control, BLS, and ACLS/PALS. Physical ability to work in a general hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions. Compensation $127,504.00 – $161,782.40 per year.
