Job Title: Senior Staff Accountant Location: Annapolis, MD (In-Office with highly flexible daily scheduling) Compensation: $85,000 - $100,000 base salary + Discretionary Year-End Bonus About Us: We are a highly successful, growing real estate investment, development, and property management organization based in Annapolis, MD. We manage a complex and diverse portfolio of approximately 90 real estate entities. Due to a recent internal promotion, we are looking to backfill a critical role and add a strong Senior Staff Accountant to our tight-knit team! The Role: As our Senior Staff Accountant, you will be a vital part of our financial operations, reporting directly to our newly promoted Director of Accounting (meaning you will be trained by the person who knows this exact role best!). Because of the dynamic nature of real estate development, no two days look exactly the same. We are looking for an adaptable, proactive accountant who is comfortable "playing defense"; meaning you can walk in planning to do one thing, but expertly pivot to handle urgent vendor requests, capital calls, or partner inquiries as they pop up. Key Responsibilities: Multi-Entity Accounting: Facilitate month-end close for our core active operating entities (approximately 6 per month) and coordinate the comprehensive year-end close processes for our entire portfolio of ~90 entities. Accounts Receivable & Capital Calls: Process AR, which is heavily focused on executing capital calls for development activities (ensuring partners fund active projects) and processing monthly/quarterly distributions. Accounts Payable: Perform full-cycle AP, including invoice approval, coding, and processing across multiple cash accounts and entities, with weekly check runs. Partner & Tax Relations: Collaborate with our external tax accountants to provide necessary year-end information. Distribute annual K-1 tax documents and answer partner inquiries regarding entity performance and development progress. Transactional & Real Estate Accounting: Prepare paperwork and accounting schedules for real estate asset sales and refinancings. Record daily deposits and mortgage payments, and submit monthly loan requisitions to lenders. Compliance & Administration: Manage our centralized insurance portfolio (which involves a major administrative push for annual renewals on January 1st). Maintain up-to-date W-9s, manage Certificates of Insurance (COIs), and maintain accurate 1099 records. What We Are Looking For: Experience: 3 to 10 years of professional accounting experience. We are looking for an established Staff Accountant ready to step into a Senior role, or a current Senior Accountant. (Please note: This is not an entry-level position). Multi-Entity Mastery: Proven experience handling accounting across multiple entities simultaneously is our #1 requirement! Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. While an Accounting degree is preferred, we highly value candidates with unrelated degrees who have built their accounting expertise hands-on and on the job. Industry Background: Previous experience in real estate, property management, or construction accounting is highly preferred, but we will train the right candidate who has strong multi-entity experience. (Note: We are on the ownership/management side, so candidates whose backgrounds are strictly in bank-side loan processing will not be a fit). Tech Savvy: Experience with Sage 300 CRE or AppFolio is a huge plus, but we are happy to train you if you have used similar systems (Yardi, MRI, etc.) or are a quick learner. Adaptability: Exceptional ability to wear multiple hats, prioritize conflicting deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. What We Offer: Competitive Pay: $85,000 - $100,000 base salary (targeting $85k-$90k, with flexibility up to $100k for exceptionally strong candidates), plus a discretionary year-end bonus. Schedule Flexibility: While this is a fully in-office role in Annapolis, MD, we offer highly flexible daily schedules to fit your life (e.g., 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, or 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM).
