Senior Staff Accountant

Degnon Associates, Inc. seeks a full-time, high‑capacity, tech‑forward Senior Staff Accountant to manage the full‑cycle accounting and compliance for a diverse portfolio of nonprofit clients, with annual revenues ranging from $40k to $3M. Reporting to the Director of Accounting Services, you will serve as the primary technical lead for Bill.com, Sage expense reporting and QuickBooks Desktop or Online, ensuring financial accuracy and operational excellence across all entities. Position is hybrid with some in‑office work required. Key Responsibilities Multi‑Entity Accounting Operations: Perform daily data entry, may include bank reconciliations, and expense management for several distinct sets of books using QuickBooks and Bill.com. Grant & Fund Accounting: Track and report on private grants, ensuring proper allocation between restricted and unrestricted funds. Financial Reporting: Assist with production of quarterly/annual financial statements for nonprofit leadership. Compliance & Filing: Manage annual corporate report filings and insurance renewals across many jurisdictions. Tax Administration: Support the year‑end preparation and filing of Form 1099s for all clients and assist with annual audit/review prep. AI use and forward thinking with technology: help team transition to Project Management System and keep current with technology trends. Required Qualifications Education: Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance. Experience: Minimum 3 years of professional experience specifically within the nonprofit sector. Software Mastery: Expert‑level proficiency in QuickBooks Online/Desktop and Bill.com is mandatory. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with nonprofit‑specific compliance in the DMV corridor (e.g., Virginia SCC filings, Maryland SDAT, and DC RA-1 reports).
