Labor And Delivery NurseNestled on the Central California Coast, Adventist Health Sierra Vista has been providing care to our community since 1959. Our 162-bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and county designated trauma center. Featuring a charming downtown, comfortable coastal weather, idyllic views, and an active lifestyle San Luis Obispo offers much to be had.The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for the planning and provision of nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, including emergency situations and circulating for C-Sections. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel commensurate with their scope of practice. This position is represented by CNA.Education and Work Experience: Associate Degree(A.S.) or equivalent: Required Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Preferred Two years experience of Labor & Delivery: RequiredLicenses/Certifications: Current RN license in state of practice: Required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course: Required Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice: Required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS: Required AHA-NRP or ARC-NALS: Required Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) or Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN): RequiredEssential Functions: Performs physical & psychosocial assessment of pt which demonstrates knowledge & consideration of age, cultural differences & support for fetal demise. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal oriented care plan for each pt in collaboration with members of the health care team and provides care based on that plan. Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in managing perinatal emergencies incl but not limited to: crash C-section, precipitous delivery, shoulder dystocia. During L&D is competent to assess fetal and maternal well being, assess amniotic fluid status, assess vaginal bleeding, and recognize and manage abnormalities. Effectively manages pain control in the laboring patient. Supports and implements alternative pain control when appropriate. Is competent to assist with epidural catheter placement and monitor fetal & maternal status during catheter placement and after medication administration.
