Small Animal Internist – Carolina Veterinary Specialists, Huntersville, NC Carolina Veterinary Specialists (CVS) Huntersville is seeking a Board‑Certified or Residency‑Trained Small Animal Internist to join our growing 24/7 emergency and specialty referral hospital just north of Charlotte, North Carolina. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative specialty team while practicing advanced medicine in a well‑established referral network serving the greater Charlotte region and surrounding Carolinas. Our hospital currently includes a Board‑Certified Surgeon who also serves as Medical Director, an Exotics Specialist, six Emergency Veterinarians, and more than 25 full‑time veterinary technicians and assistants supporting patient care 24/7. Collaborative specialty environment with experienced emergency clinicians and specialists Exceptional technical support from a highly skilled technician team Advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities including a 128‑slice CT scanner, high‑resolution ultrasound, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, in‑house laboratory, digital radiography, and 24‑hour emergency support Strong referral network and growth opportunities within one of six Carolina Veterinary Specialists hospitals Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups Communicate and educate clients about conditions and treatment plans Maintain accurate medical records Prescribe medications and follow controlled substance protocols Promote teamwork and staff efficiency Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge Monitor cases in the hospital and attend daily rounds when possible to uphold high standards Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels Perform additional duties as assigned by Management Qualifications (Required) DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary school Completion of a 1‑year rotating internship in small animal medicine, surgery, ER (university or large referral practice) Completion of a 3‑year AVMA‑approved residency program Current state veterinary license and DEA registration Strong diagnostic and clinical skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with clients and staff Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment and provide compassionate, high‑quality care Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moderately demanding work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling as needed Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Board Certification (ACVIM) 2–5 years of post‑residency experience Advanced clinical knowledge in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other examinations Problem‑solving and business acumen for hospital management and finances Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff Commitment to continuing education and mentoring colleagues Professionalism and ethical decision‑making in patient care Compensation & Benefits Compensation Range: $175,000–$275,000+, depending on experience and production potential.
