Description:

The HSE Specialist I supports safe and compliant operations across TAKKION construction projects by proactively identifying hazards, addressing safety risks, and engaging field teams before incidents occur. This field-based role works closely with project leadership, foremen, and employees to reinforce safe work practices, conduct inspections, respond to incidents and injuries, and support compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on industry experience, emergency response capabilities, strong attention to detail, and the ability to build credibility with field teams. This position requires extensive travel and regular work in active construction environments.

Essential Duties

Field Safety Leadership

• Partner with project leadership, foremen, and field teams to implement and reinforce company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Exercise stop-work authority when operations present an immediate danger to employees, contractors, equipment, or company assets.
• Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and work with field teams to implement timely corrective actions.
• Support injury and incident prevention through coaching, training, field observations, and daily engagement with employees.

Compliance & Inspections

• Conduct routine field safety inspections and audits to identify hazards, compliance gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
• Perform monthly compliance inspections of rigging, fall protection systems, ladders, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, AEDs, and other safety-related equipment.
• Review Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), rigging practices, equipment conditions, and other critical work activities for compliance with established requirements.
• Perform and document emergency response drills and support site emergency preparedness.
• Maintain accurate safety documentation and records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.

Incident Response & Injury Management

• Respond to workplace incidents and injuries and provide basic first aid within the individual's training, certification, and authorized scope.
• Assess injuries at the site level and coordinate appropriate medical evaluation or treatment when necessary.
• Support case management activities, including communication and coordination.
• Communicate injury status, treatment plans, work restrictions, and other relevant information to appropriate business and safety leaders.
• Participate in incident investigations and help identify contributing factors and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Identify trends and opportunities to reduce workplace injuries, illnesses, and other health and safety risks.

Safety Engagement & Culture

• Support safety observation and employee recognition programs that reinforce positive safety behaviors.
• Serve as an accessible field safety resource and liaison between employees, project leadership, and the broader HSE team.
• Promote open communication and employee participation in TAKKION's safety programs and initiatives.

Additional Duties

Requirements:

Education & Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years of field experience in the wind industry required.
• Minimum of 2 years of emergency medical technician (EMT) experience is required.
• BLS/CPR certificate required; State or NREMT not required but preferred.
• Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and other applicable occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
• Ability to lead by example and coach field personnel in real-time.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety-related software systems.
• Ability to travel as required.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of are generally light and primarily aligned with office-based work unless visiting operational facilities/sites.

Specific requirements include:

• Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
• Frequent walking and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas as required.
• Ability to enter confined or tight spaces when necessary to perform inspections or other assigned responsibilities.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively to project sites based on business needs.
• Ability to work schedules that may vary based on project and operational requirements.
