We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist within our Environmental Health & Safety team to help support our Work Furniture business. In our Furniture Components business, we design, manufacture, and distribute a wide range of components and finished products that enhance comfort, motion, and style in upholstered furniture, including recliner mechanisms, seating support systems, and sofa sleeper units. With a global footprint that includes international manufacturing, product development, distribution, and sales, we are strategically positioned to support upholstered furniture manufacturers around the world.Leggett & Platt is North America’s leading independent manufacturer of office furniture components and mechanisms. Our Work Furniture business produces task and finished components, as well as select lines of private label finished seating. From surface-critical bent tube assemblies and molded plywood components to chair mechanisms, bases, arms, seats, and backs, Work Furniture brings diverse world-class manufacturing capabilities together in the production and assembly of high-quality contract furniture products.As a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, you will have the opportunity to support and strengthen EHS activities across four facilities in Western Michigan. We value strong leadership, practical problem-solving, employee engagement, and a passion for creating safe and sustainable workplaces.So, what will you be doing as a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist?Supporting EHS programs and initiatives across four manufacturing facilities in Western MichiganPartnering with site leadership to improve safety performance, regulatory compliance, and employee engagementConducting facility inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and compliance reviewsLeading or supporting incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementationIdentifying trends and developing practical solutions to reduce risk and prevent future incidentsSupporting compliance with OSHA/MIOSHA, EPA, EGLE, NFPA, and other applicable regulationsAssisting with environmental programs related to waste management, hazardous materials, air, water, and stormwater requirementsDeveloping and supporting emergency response plans, drills, and preparedness activitiesCoordinating new hire, annual, and site-specific EHS training programsCoaching leaders and employees on hazard recognition, safety communication, and risk reduction strategiesMonitoring and reporting EHS performance metrics, including injuries, near misses, audits, inspections, and corrective actionsSupporting the implementation and continuous improvement of corporate EHS programs and standardsCollaborating with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, HR, Legal, and external agencies to support safety and environmental objectivesTo be successful in this role, you'll need:Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field5+ years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing environmentWorking knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA requirements and environmental compliance regulationsExperience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action managementAbility to identify workplace hazards and implement practical risk-reduction solutionsStrong leadership, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skillsAbility to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organizationWillingness and ability to travel regularly between facilities in Western MichiganThings we consider a plus:Experience supporting EHS programs across multiple manufacturing sitesKnowledge of ergonomics, machine guarding, industrial hygiene, lockout/tagout, powered industrial trucks, and hazardous energy control programsExperience with EHS management systems such as Enablon, Benchmark Gensuite, or similar platformsStrong analytical and continuous improvement mindsetProficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and CopilotBilingual communication skillsWhat to Do NextNow that you’ve had a chance to learn more about us, what are you waiting for!
