It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!**Description of Work**Reporting to the Associate Warden of Custody, this position is responsible for managing the operations of an institutional housing unit within a close-custody correctional institution. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Determining and evaluating program design necessary to meet the needs of the offender population. - Coordinating programs and services with staff. - Performing orientation with offenders which includes: administration, disciplinary segregation, education, mental health, operations, programs, and work assignments. - Final approval of authority on unit classification and disciplinary committees. - Working in accordance with departmental regulations and established procedures.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences****Salary Range: $43,267 - $75,718****This job posting will close at 11:59 pm, the night before the end date listed above.*****Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.**About the Division of Institutions**:The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.**About Southern Correctional Institution:**Southern Correctional Institution is located in Troy, North Carolina and houses up to 700 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.**Supplemental Application Information**:The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions with the most qualified individuals.
