Job Summary:
Psychiatric Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position available in Elmira, New York. The role involves providing care on a 25-bed acute inpatient psychiatry unit, including patient rounds, vital sign monitoring, medication administration, facilitating groups, and assisting with patient care. The position may include floating to a related inpatient addiction rehab unit as needed.

Job Details:

• Schedule: Rotating shifts, including 2 eight-hour shifts from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM and 2 twelve-hour shifts from 11:00 AM to 11:30 PM, totaling 40 hours per week; schedule may vary based on operational needs.
• Certifications and Education Requirements: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; valid nursing license; at least 1 year of clinical experience as an RN.
• Patient Population: Adults with acute psychosis, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, suicidal or homicidal ideations, or dual diagnosis.
• Responsibilities include patient rounds, vital signs, medication administration, patient advocacy, group facilitation, and ensuring safety protocols are followed, including handling restraints as a last resort.
• Staff Ratios: Up to 5:1 patient-to-staff ratio, often less.
• Additional Role Details: Ability to float to related units, trained to perform charge nurse and admission nurse responsibilities.
• Emergency Protocols: No emergency department within the hospital; medical emergencies should be directed to 911 and the nearest emergency department.
• Staff Requirements: BLS certified; experience in psychiatric inpatient care preferred.
