Hiring Bonuses $5,000 for applicants hired as Police Officer Recruit $7,500 for applicants hired as out‑of‑state lateral Police Officer $10,000 for applicants hired as in‑state lateral Police Officer Testing Process Applicants may complete their entire testing process in one day (Physical Assessment Exam, Written Essay, and Oral Board Interview). The testing date is Saturday, July 18, 2026. Selected applicants will receive an email invitation by Thursday, July 2, 2026, allowing them to self‑schedule for their testing date. About the Glendale Police Department Glendale is a culturally diverse community of 255,000 residents located on the western edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Glendale Police Department employs 459 sworn officers and 165 civilian employees. The department is organized into three bureaus: Operations, Investigative and Administrative Services, and Support Services. Under these bureaus are six divisions: Administrative Services, Special Operations, Criminal Investigations, Support Services, Gateway Patrol, and Foothills Patrol. New officers are assigned to one of the two patrol divisions for their first two years after field training and may later apply for specialty assignments such as SWAT, Bomb Squad, K‑9, Motors, Detective, Vehicular Crimes, and Training. Responsibilities Patrol assigned area of the City by automobile, motorcycle, on foot or bicycle, preventing crime and enforcing all applicable criminal, traffic, and liquor laws and City Ordinances. Respond to calls for service involving crimes such as robberies, assaults, homicides, and narcotics violations. Respond to general public service calls for civil or societal problems. Secure the scene of a crime; make arrests; book prisoners. Respond to hazardous materials incidents and traffic accidents; investigate traffic accidents; detect impaired drivers; administer first aid; direct traffic and request medical assistance. Prepare reports to accurately document information. Participate in problem‑oriented policing efforts by identifying problem areas, recommending and implementing solutions, and monitoring results. Perform suicide prevention interventions; transport mentally ill patients; perform surveillance operations. Conduct a variety of general and specialized criminal investigations involving property and persons crimes; gather evidence; preserve crime scenes; prepare cases for prosecution. Provide training on gang‑related issues, firearms, defensive driving, defensive tactics, impact weapons and other related police topics. Write and execute search warrants. Serve court orders, arrest warrants, and mental health orders. Select, direct, train, and maintain canines. Appear in court as the State's witness and deliver testimony. Provide police services at various special events in the City. Present public‑relations programs to school‑age and adult groups; present other programs and participate in community functions. Perform assigned personnel functions in the area of recruitment, training and record keeping. Perform squad supervisory duties as required; maintain police supplies at stations. Perform specialty duties such as interpreting and peer counseling. Perform other related duties as assigned. Police Officer Recruit High school graduate or equivalent. Police Officer High school graduate or equivalent and possess an active Arizona POST Certification. Knowledge of Principles and practices of modern police work and law enforcement methods. Federal, State, and City laws governing police operations, custody of prisoners, search and seizure, and the rules of evidence; departmental rules and regulations. General City law‑enforcement problems; geography of the City; layout of major facilities. Problem‑oriented policing; community agencies and other available resources. Methods of patrol, criminal, and traffic investigations. Skill in Using police equipment, including vehicles and weapons. Using computers, electronic, and audio equipment. Using crime‑scene evidence‑collection equipment. Ability to Analyze situations, maintain composure, and make effective and reasonable decisions. Remember names, faces, and details of incidents. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Clearly and concisely document the facts and circumstances of a law‑enforcement incident. Correctly identify the elements of a crime and accurately record them in a police report for purposes of prosecution. Operate law‑enforcement computerized data‑entry and retrieval systems. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Special Requirements Be at least 21 years of age; a person may attend an academy if the person will be 21 before graduating. ACJIS Terminal Operators Certification. AZPOST Police Officer Certification. Must continuously meet all the requirements and standards of AZPOST. Valid Arizona Driver's License. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on City business must possess and retain a current, valid State of Arizona class‑appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on City business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on City business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance.
