Backend Software EngineerLocation: Phoenix, Arizona Department: Building Technology Solutions Reports To: Commercial Development ManagerSummaryWe are launching a new, greenfield product, and we are building a newly assembled, cross-functional product team to deliver it. We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to help define, build, and scale the backend foundation of this product from inception through production.This role offers the opportunity to apply backend best practices and modern frameworks in a new product setting, while operating within the quality, security, and scalability standards of an enterprise environment. You will collaborate closely with a full-stack team to deliver intuitive, high-quality user experiences from MVP through full production.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop backend services for a new product using TypeScript and NestJS or similar frameworksContribute to architectural decisions with a focus on scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainabilityBuild and maintain APIs and backend services that support data-driven and ML-enabled featuresDevelop and manage data access layers using Prisma or equivalent ORM technologiesContainerize backend services using Docker or equivalent and support deployment into enterprise-managed environmentsHelp mature early-stage prototypes and MVPs into production-ready systemsEnsure backend systems meet enterprise standards for performance, security, and operational stabilityParticipate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical documentationBalance rapid product iteration with enterprise engineering best practicesThe Skills And Experience You Bring3+ years of professional backend software development experienceStrong proficiency in TypeScriptHands-on experience with NestJS or similar Node.js frameworks (e.g., Express, Fastify)Experience using Prisma or other modern ORM librariesPractical experience with Docker in development and production environmentsDemonstrated experience taking an MVP or prototype to productionStrong understanding of backend architecture, API design, and database fundamentalsComfortable collaborating across multiple disciplines in a product-focused teamWhat Makes You Stand Out?Experience with PythonFamiliarity with Angular (helpful but not required)Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCPExperience supporting data-intensive or ML-enabled applicationsFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment workflowsWork EnvironmentThis role is based in either Austin, Texas or Phoenix, Arizona. This role interfaces with teams distributed across multiple geographies and functions, requiring strong communication and organizational skills.
