Accounting Specialist (S) – Grants Section Position Number 60067389, Grade NC11, located within the NC Department of Adult Correction’s Grants Section. The Accounting Specialist supports the Grants Manager in daily administration of grant operations and accounting functions. Key Responsibilities Assist with grant processing, accounting operations, and financial reporting. Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, and cash drawdowns to ensure compliance. Prepare reconciliations, accounting entries, financial analyses, and reports. Maintain internal controls and ensure adherence to policies and regulations. Provide financial guidance and policy interpretation to division staff. Utilize NCFS, General Ledger, Accounts Payable/Receivable, and E‑Procurement systems to support daily operations. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field with core financial management coursework; or an associate’s degree in accounting and two (2) years of accounting or auditing experience; or high school or GED diploma and four (4) years of accounting technician experience, with at least three years at an advanced level. Preferred Skills and Abilities Documented working knowledge of accounting and reporting practices. Experience maintaining spreadsheets and databases, including importing and exporting data. Experience assisting with interpreting and analyzing accounting data in grant contexts. Experience applying analysis to departmental needs and ensuring compliance with pertinent guidelines, rules, regulations, and laws. Experience maintaining effective working relationships with related agencies, departmental staff, and the public. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Salary Range $45,431 – $79,504.
