POSITION SUMMARY:
An incumbent in this position provides research, planning, designing, enhancement and maintenance of a statewide distributed computer system network consisting of multiple vendor hardware, software and communications.
SPECIAL NOTE:
This position will be located in the Pensacola Regional Operations Center.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
- Planning, designing, and coordinating a distributed processing system with statewide and area networking multi-agency environments;
- Consulting with agency administrators and users to conduct information assessments to determine users needs and to define systems requirements;
- Designing and configuring a distributed computer systems environment with appropriate hardware, operating systems software, applications software, and communications components to solve business/office problems for a wide area agency network;
- Coordinating the day-to-day support of PROC systems as required by the department;
- Assisting with the planning, design and implementation of distributed processing systems with local and/or wide area networking components. This may include both short and long term projects;
- Configuring distributed computer systems environments with appropriate hardware, operating systems software, applications software and communications components to solve business/office problems for local and wide area networks;
- Consulting with customers and conduct information assessments in order to determine user needs and to define system requirements. Provide consulting services both internally and externally to FDLE and other state agencies;
- Conducting research and development in distributed processing and information systems technology to support the planning and enhancement of departmental networks. This includes hardware, software, and communications components of the network;
- Demonstrating willingness and ability to expand knowledge of networks, distributed systems and their components; and
- Performing miscellaneous functions as requested by the supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of problem-solving techniques;
- Knowledge of computers and software;
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of computer programming and/or computer systems analysis;
- Ability to write, code, test and debug computer programs;
- Ability to process information logically and solve problems;
- Ability to develop training programs related to distributed processing operations and procedures;
- Ability to monitor and resolve problems with distributed computer systems components;
- Ability to identify and define user task needs;
- Ability to communicate effectively; and
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

BACKGROUND:
FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants.
