Employment Type: Temporary, approximately 2 months
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8AM-5PM
Pay: $20-25/hr DOE

About the Job

Express Employment Professionals is partnering with a local municipal organization in Lacey, WA, to fill a temporary Utility Billing Representative position. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong customer service and financial office experience who is comfortable working with account information, payments, billing, and the public.

In this role, you will be one of the primary points of contact for utility customers, assisting both over the phone and in person. You will help research and resolve account questions, process payments and billing transactions, maintain accurate customer records, and provide general accounting and administrative support to the utility billing department.

This is a temporary position expected to last approximately two months. The schedule is Monday-Friday from 8AM-5PM. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist customers by phone and in person with utility billing questions, account information, payments, and service requests
• Research customer accounts and resolve billing questions, discrepancies, and concerns
• Establish new accounts and process final bills, adjustments, refunds, and payment arrangements
• Accept and process customer payments and maintain accurate account records
• Balance daily payments and assist with preparing deposits and payment reconciliations
• Assist with past-due accounts, notices, payment plans, and related collection processes
• Process utility billing invoices, applications, account adjustments, and other documentation
• Create service requests related to meter readings, leaks, and other utility account needs
• Assist with monthly utility billing activities and verify account and meter information
• Manage escrow inquiries and provide final billing information
• Maintain accurate records, databases, and electronic documentation
• Provide additional accounting, customer service, and administrative support as needed

What You Bring:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Two years of experience in a financial office environment with a strong customer service component, accounting/bookkeeping, financial management, or similar related experience preferred
• Public sector or utility billing experience is a plus
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to professionally handle questions, complaints, and difficult conversations
• Experience researching, reviewing, and reconciling detailed account or financial information
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Comfortable working with payments, basic calculations, and financial records
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
• Intermediate Excel skills preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and interruptions while meeting deadlines
• Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team
• Dependable with strong judgment and follow-through
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with customer and financial information
• Ability to type accurately and efficiently; 55 WPM preferred
• Must be able to pass a background investigation, including a financial background investigation, and successfully complete reference checks
• Valid Washington State driver's license or ability to provide reliable transportation as required
