Position Information City/State: Nyack, New York Department: Recovery Center – Detox Shift: Night (10:30 PM – 7:00 AM) with alternate weekends Hours: 8.5 per day, 40 per pay period Hourly Rate: $23.34 – $24.06 per hour (may vary by experience, education, and shift differential) Job Summary The Patient Care Associate (PCA) performs assigned patient care tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The PCA supports patients in daily activities, monitors clinical variables, documents care, and upholds the Patient Bill of Rights. Upon competency, higher‑level PCAs may perform monitor technician duties. Key Responsibilities Perform direct nursing tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, and supporting personal hygiene. Collect and chart data, including vital signs, weight, height, and fluid intake/output; report changes to the RN. Assist with nutritional needs: prepare food trays, help with feeding, and refill water and ice. Assist mobility and positioning: help with turning, transferring to/from wheelchair, and ambulation. Conduct phlebotomy via venous puncture, obtain lab specimens, perform EKGs, and complete finger‑stick blood glucose testing, reporting results to the RN. Maintain a clean, safe environment and comply with hospital safety, infection control, and risk‑management policies. Perform other delegated or specialized functions, including handling medications for transport retrieval only. Performance & Employee Standards Customer Service: Create positive interactions, advocate for patients, use respectful communication, acknowledge concerns, and offer assistance. Performance Improvement: Participate in department activities, enhance self‑development, meet licensure/certification obligations, and complete annual competency assessments. Budget: Use equipment and supplies prudently and follow the charge process. Projects & Assignments: Complete projects on time, serve on committees, perform duties within classification, and assist with new PCA orientation. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; less than 1 year of previous health‑care experience. Required certifications: Certified Nurse’s Assistant, Certified Patient Care Technician, or enrollment in a nursing program. Preferred: Demonstrated phlebotomy and EKG skills; Monitor Technician experience; full command of English. Physical ability and perceptive acuity to perform patient care functions. PCA hierarchy qualifications: PCA I: Complete orientation and skills checklist within 3 months, and demonstrate EKG, phlebotomy, and blood glucose skills. PCA II: At least 1 year experience and satisfactory performance appraisal. PCA III: In addition to PCA II requirements + one of: National phlebotomy certification, preceptor training, or dysrhythmia course; or NYS CNA certification for TCU assignment. PCA IV: In addition to PCA III requirements + 2 years experience, above‑average appraisal, precepted at least 2 PCAs, and BLS certification within 30 days.
