Medical Malpractice Defense Associate Attorney

About the Role:

Join a growing Medical Malpractice Defense Department within an established full-service law firm where experienced attorneys handle complex litigation and challenging matters across multiple venues. We are seeking a Medical Malpractice Defense Associate Attorney with 2 4 years of experience to work closely with highly recognized partners and gain hands-on experience across all stages of medical malpractice defense.

With more than two decades of experience and 120+ attorneys, the firm provides an environment where associates can work alongside experienced advocates while continuing to strengthen their litigation, research, writing and courtroom skills.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter and collaborative team player with strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. This role offers meaningful client interaction, hands-on litigation responsibilities and exposure to cases across New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, Orange and Westchester Counties.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, pleadings and other litigation documents.
• Manage discovery matters, including conducting and defending depositions.
• Review medical records and case materials to identify relevant facts and prepare matters for litigation.
• Assist with trial preparation and participate in court proceedings as needed.
• Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, opposing counsel and witnesses.
• Travel to multiple venues, including NYC, Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, Orange and Westchester Counties.
• Support attorneys and partners in managing complex medical malpractice defense matters.
• Prioritize multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and organization.

Required Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in New York.
• 2 4 years of medical malpractice litigation defense experience.
• Experience with depositions, discovery, motion practice, medical records review and trial preparation.
• Admission to the New Jersey Bar is a plus.
• Proficiency in online legal research, electronic billing codes and medical records review.
• Excellent writing, organizational and multitasking skills.
• Strong ability to communicate and build professional relationships with clients, court staff, adversaries and witnesses.
• Ability to adapt, prioritize effectively and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfortable working with professionals at all levels, including senior management and colleagues across departments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
