Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) Inpatient Neurosurgery II - Neuro Expansion

Overview Cleveland Clinic’s Neurological Institute is expanding and has an opportunity for a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our team of supportive caregivers, serving the adult and pediatric population with neurosurgical teams. Care for pediatric through geriatric populations with neurosurgical needs across the spectrum from emergency room to ICU, stepdown and floor. Patient populations include spine, cerebrovascular, tumor, functional epilepsy, and congenital surgical teams. Responsibilities Duties/procedures involve standard hospitalist duties (progress notes, discharges, triage and responding to emergencies) and procedures including, but not limited to, lumbar punctures, sutures, EVD removal, corpak placement, and shunt adjustments. Responsibilities also include collaboration with the health care team, patient education, discharge planning, and quality monitoring. Additional duties as assigned. Conduct thorough medical histories and physical examinations as indicated; initiate appropriate lab, radiology tests or other evaluations; develop working diagnoses and treatment plans in collaboration with the health care team. Perform and interpret common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures (as credentialed and privileged). Perform routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged (as applicable). Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by license and Cleveland Clinic policies. Educate patients about their disease, treatments, side effects and hazards; participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with nursing, medical and other team members. Refer patients to specialists for consultation or specialized resources and treatment; ensure continuity of care as a liaison between patient and the multidisciplinary team. Participate in quality monitoring by reviewing records and treatment plans to assure quality care; facilitate discharge planning and regulatory compliance for inpatient management. Support professional development of the health care team and promote evidence-based practices, guidelines and research; may conduct research studies and assist in data collection and analysis. May serve as a clinical preceptor for students and onboard new caregivers. Other duties as assigned. Education and Qualifications APRN Effective 05/01/2014: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role. Graduate of an accredited APRN program. If in neonatal care service area, Master’s Degree is required upon hire. PA Graduate of an A.R.C. approved Physician Assistant Program. Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or higher from a program recognized by the practicing states Licensing Board. Languages Oral and written communication in English. Certifications and Credentials NP Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s); must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s). National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the AHA; or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) may be required based on work setting. Arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with state Board of Nursing requirements. Credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals. CNS Currently licensed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in applicable state(s) and licensed as an RN in applicable state(s). National certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) and, depending on work setting, ACLS or PALS; NRP may be required. Arrangements with at least one physician as required by the State Board of Nursing; credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals. PA Certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA or successor organization; license to practice and prescriptive authority issued by the practicing state licensing board. Current DEA license or designee as required by NCQA; BLS required; ACLS/PALS or ATLS may be required based on setting. Physician Supervision Agreement and related addendum where applicable; credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals. Complexity of Work Excellent analytical and decision-making skills; strong written and verbal communication. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team; competent in advanced assessment and diagnosis. Proficient in electronic medical record use; high standard of ethical behavior; compassionate and professional with a commitment to patient care. Ability to work in a stressful environment; capable of independent work and decisive judgment. Work Experience and Physical Requirements Related clinical experience preferred. Typical physical demands include walking/standing for long periods; dexterity for examinations; corrected vision and hearing; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids. Follows standard precautions with PPE as required. Pay Range Minimum Annual Salary: $101,900.00 Maximum Annual Salary: $173,220.00 The pay range reflects anticipated range for new hires; actual compensation may vary based on responsibilities, experience, skills, scheduling, education, and licensure. The range does not include additional pay practices or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s comprehensive benefits package.
