Clinical Track Position in Equine Ambulatory
The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor or Professor of Practice in Equine Ambulatory. The individual selected will provide independent primary and emergency clinical care and case management, participate in teaching and service within the Equine Section of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, provide didactic lectures in the professional curriculum, and participate in graduate student and intern training programs.
Clinical responsibilities will include independent, primary and emergency case care within the Equine Ambulatory Service to our surrounding area. A share of after-hours emergency duty is expected. Teaching activities will be conducted principally in a clinical field setting with laboratory and didactic teaching as well. The percent effort allocation toward clinical responsibilities and teaching, research, outreach and service will be established to meet the incumbent's qualifications and interests and the needs of the Ambulatory service.
Description of Equine Ambulatory Service: The caseload is predominately recreational and sports-oriented horses. The service has access to a variety of diagnostic equipment including digital radiography, portable ultrasound, one and three meter endoscopes, dental scope, and lameness locator as well as advanced therapeutics including power dental float, laser, shockwave, IRAP, PRP, Pro-stride and Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (A2M). The vehicles are equipped with mobile internet. Consultation with other specialists within the college is easily accessible. There is separate food and fiber animal ambulatory service, rotating intern, and student rotation.
In addition to the ambulatory vehicles and equipment, Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is home to the John Thomas Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital which was completed in 2003. The hospital consists of two equine in-patient wards (containing air-conditioned and specially designed stalls for neurological or neonatal patients), a self-contained isolation complex, an out-patient/lameness diagnostic complex, an ICU, two large treatment/diagnostic areas, an endoscopy/standing surgical suite, nuclear scintigraphy, complete large animal digital radiological services, centralized pharmacy services, 3 surgical suites with 4 recovery boxes, 2 in-patient food animal wards, 1 food animal procedure barn, 1 food animal surgical suite, a working dairy with milking parlor, and house officer/faculty offices and conference areas. Additional services on-site include 3T MRI, 64-slice CT, equine standing CT, and radiation therapy (Varian Edge linear accelerator). A Qalibra CT is scheduled for installation in late 2026. The JTV Large Animal Teaching Hospital is additionally outfitted with equipment for laparoscopy, digital video-endoscopy (traditional and over-ground dynamic), laser surgery, ultrasonography, ECG (including a telemetry unit)/blood pressure/pulse oximetry, arthroscopy, critical care monitoring, dentistry, and TVEC. The successful candidate would join the team of 11 board-certified large animal internal medicine specialists (ACVIM-LA diplomates), 4 board-certified large animal surgeons (one of whom is also boarded in ACVECC), and 6 board-certified theriogenologists. Additional supportive services include Equine Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Equine Diagnostic Imaging, Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care, and Neurology.

A DVM or equivalent degree and eligibility for veterinary licensure in the State of Alabama and the State of Georgia are required at the time employment begins. A minimum of three years of equine practice experience as a veterinarian are required. The successful candidate must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of the appointment and be able to continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
Candidates that are board certified or board eligible in an appropriate specialty college (American or European College including: Theriogenology; Internal Medicine Large Animal; Veterinary Surgery Large Animal; Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Equine, or Board of Veterinary Practitioners Equine Practice) are desired but not required.
