Vice President, Development

$112.3k - $125k

Morrison Child and Family Services

Vice President, DevelopmentMorrison Child and Family Services is looking for a relationship-centered and hands-on fundraising leader to serve as our next Vice President of Development. This is an opportunity to do more than just maintain a well-established development program. You will work directly with the CEO, Board of Directors, organizational leaders, and our long-standing community of supporters to build the relationships, strategy, systems and team capacity needed to grow annual philanthropic revenue from approximately $1 million toward $2 million or more over the next three to five years. You will join a well-respected organization, known for our quality, with more than 75 years of service, a compelling mission, a strong brand presence, an established base, and a small, committed team. You will have the opportunity to build upon Morrison's major-gifts program and successful annual event in order to expand its donor community, clarify its case for support, create the infrastructure for sustainable growth, and secure significant additional philanthropic support. This is a visible, community-facing executive position for someone who enjoys setting strategy - and is equally energized by meeting donors, making meaningful asks, coaching staff, strengthening a pipeline and turning plans into results. You do not need to have held a Vice President title before. This could be an exciting next step for an accomplished Development Director, senior major-gifts fundraiser or a seasoned development professional ready for greater responsibility, executive influence and the opportunity to build.Morrison's mission is simple and deeply important: helping kids be kids and supporting families when they need us most. Founded in 1947, Morrison is a nationally recognized provider of high-quality, trauma-informed behavioral-health services for children and families.Nine distinct programs and an annual operating budget of approximately $40 million.More than 425 dedicated employees.Approximately 8,000 children and family members served each year.A goal of serving 10,000 children and family members annually. Our next Vice President of Development will help more people understand this work, see its impact and become meaningful partners in Morrison's future. You may be right for this role if:You believe successful fundraising begins with authentic, lasting relationships. You enjoy meeting donors, learning what matters to them and making meaningful asks. You move comfortably between big-picture strategy and hands-on execution. You know how to create focus, discipline and momentum within a major-gifts pipeline. You use data and sound judgment to forecast results, set priorities and adjust strategy. You enjoy coaching a small team and helping people succeed. You communicate with warmth and credibility across donors, staff, executives, Board members, community leaders and the media. You are excited to build a stronger fundraising operation - not simply inherit and maintain one. What you will lead:Fundraising strategy and growthCreate and execute a focused, financially realistic strategy to grow annual philanthropic revenue toward $2 million or more.Set priorities across major gifts, individual giving, foundations, corporate partnerships, planned giving, annual giving, grants, and large and boutique events.Develop clear revenue forecasts, budgets, performance measures and recommendations for future fundraising investment.Major gifts and donor relationshipsPersonally manage a high-impact portfolio of major donors and prospective donors.Build authentic relationships and personally solicit and secure five- and six-figure gifts.Lead donor identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, appreciation, recognition, stewardship and retention.Expand Morrison's community of supporters through research, referrals, Board relationships and community engagement, including the Morrison Legacy Society.Foundation, corporate and community partnershipsDeepen relationships with Oregon foundations, elected officials, government, businesses, and community leaders.Work across departments to translate program priorities and outcomes into compelling funding opportunities, donor stories and grant proposals.Develop corporate partnerships and sponsorships that create meaningful connections to Morrison's mission.Represent Morrison at donor meetings, community gatherings, presentations and fundraising events.Executive, Board and team leadershipServe as a trusted fundraising advisor and partner to the CEO.Equip Board members and brand ambassadors with stories, materials and practical ways to support introductions, advocacy, cultivation and stewardship.Lead and develop a team that currently includes a Development Specialist and a Marketing and Communications Specialist.Provide clear, candid updates on results, pipeline health, forecasts, opportunities and risks.Systems, marketing and communicationsStrengthen CRM practices, donor records, portfolios, workflows, dashboards, KPIs and performance reporting.Align development, marketing and communications around a compelling case for support and consistent external positioning.Guide marketing and communications that strengthen fundraising, build Morrison's brand and support utilization of key programs and services.Oversee donor-facing communications, including newsletters, annual reports, event materials, presentations, press releases, video and related materials.Serve as a key externally-facing contact for the organization. What you bring:A bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training. At least seven years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit fundraising.Your experience includes major gifts, donor cultivation, pipeline management, and marketing and communications functions.A proven record of personally securing and closing five- and six-figure gifts while managing a portfolio of high-capacity donors and delivering annual fundraising results.Experience integrating donor engagement, marketing and communications to strengthen visibility, donor acquisition and philanthropic growth.Demonstrated ability to lead through metrics-driven moves management, CRM utilization, pipeline development and performance tracking.Strong supervisory and team leadership experience, including setting expectations, coaching staff and supporting accountability.Excellent organizational and project-management skills across fundraising, events, communications and donor engagement.Exceptional written, verbal, presentation and relationship-building skills.A collaborative, adaptable approach and genuine commitment to supporting children and families.CFRE certification is preferred but not required. What success will look like:During your first year, you will build trusted relationships with Morrison's leaders, Board, staff and supporters; assess the donor base, pipeline, systems and team capacity; establish a focused multi-year fundraising strategy; personally engage priority donors and prospects; improve cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and retention; create clearer portfolios and forecasts; manage a successful fundraising event, and demonstrate measurable progress toward a sustainable $2 million-plus development program.Success will be measured not only by revenue, but also by stronger donor relationships, a healthier pipeline, reliable forecasting, consistent follow-through, an increasingly capable team and growing confidence in Morrison's philanthropic direction.Work arrangement and requirements:This is a hybrid position based in Portland, with at least three days each week in the office.
