Job Title : Teacher - Science, Gr 8-12 (SEI Endorsement Required) Start Date: July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027 Position: Full-Time, 11 Months Hours : School hours. Supervisor will clarify specific arrival and departure times. Compensation: Codman Academy Charter Public School follows a compensation scale based on years of direct experience. 1 year experience starts at $62,000, with 13 years direct experience (MA15) starting at $121,504 annually. Position Overview Codman Academy Charter Public School is seeking an Upper School Science Teacher to lead an engaging and rigorous science curriculum aligned with EL Education principles. The ideal candidate will foster inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and a hands‑on approach to science instruction. This role requires an SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement, ensuring that all students, including English Language Learners (ELLs), receive high‑quality science instruction in an inclusive and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement a standards-aligned high school science curriculum that incorporates inquiry-based learning, hands‑on experiments, and real‑world applications. Teach courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Environmental Science, integrating project-based learning and interdisciplinary connections. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, ensuring accessibility for ELLs and students with disabilities. Incorporate technology, data analysis, and scientific literacy into instruction to enhance student engagement and learning. Foster a classroom environment where students develop critical thinking, problem‑solving, and scientific reasoning skills. Utilize formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and inform instruction. Provide targeted support to English Language Learners (ELLs), ensuring equitable access to rigorous science content. Support students in developing science portfolios, participating in research projects, and engaging in STEM‑related extracurricular activities. Work collaboratively with colleagues to integrate science concepts into other disciplines through EL Education's expeditionary learning model. Participate in professional development and school‑wide initiatives to continuously improve instructional practices. Communicate regularly with families to support student growth and success in science learning. Serve as an advisor or mentor to students, supporting their academic and personal development. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support student learning and the overall success of Codman Academy. Qualifications & Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in Science, Science Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred). Massachusetts teaching certification in Science (9-12). SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement required. Experience teaching high school science in an urban school setting. Strong understanding of inquiry‑based and student‑centered learning. Preferred: Experience with EL Education or project‑based learning. Background in supporting ELLs and students with diverse learning needs.
