Residence Director Position Summary: Provide direct management of assigned residence living area, including leadership, mentoring, student safety and security, and facilities management by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in developing and maintaining a proactive Residence Life program that reflects the Christian values of the institution through professionalism, creativity, innovation, and efficiency. Reside in assigned University‑owned housing for proper performance of duties of employment. Assist with room assignments, facilitate approved room changes, and coordinate the check‑in and check‑out processes for a designated living area. Oversee the planning, administration, and evaluation of programs within a designated living area. Assist in the selection and training of Graduate Assistants and Resident Assistants. Provide supervision and ongoing leadership development for assigned staff of Resident Assistants. Attend departmental meetings deemed appropriate by supervisor. Participate in Student Services related training and events. Maintain scheduled office hours, participate in on‑call Residence Life duty rotation, and provide coverage for a minimum of one (1) University holiday/break period, as specified in the Holiday Schedule. Maintain fiscal control of appropriate funds, including but not limited to living area and programming budgets. Abide by, understand, uphold, defend, and enforce University policies and Residence Life policies. Address student judicial cases and serve as a member of Judicial Review Boards as appropriate. Respond to and serve as a resource for physical, psychological emergencies with professionalism and sound judgment. Monitor physical (health and safety) conditions of the living area. Ensure regular on‑site attendance. Supervisory Responsibilities This position supervises Resident Assistants and provides suggestions and recommendations regarding hiring, firing, advancement, and promotion of Resident Assistants. Ability to care for the needs of a culturally diverse student body. Ability to demonstrate competence in organization, helping skills, supervision, and programming. Ability to cope with the intrusions inherent to working and living in a college residence environment. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff and student body. Strong organizational skills and detail‑oriented. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions requiring discretion and independent judgment. Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard or other office equipment; requires visual acuity to read words and numbers; and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work Environment The work environment is typically an interior/office setting with moderate noise levels. Occasional exposure to health or safety hazards may occur. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university and one to two years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree and/or collegiate residential experience is preferred.
