Library Facilities and Capital Projects Manager

Tacoma Public Library is looking for a Library Facilities and Capital Projects Manager to join their team. The role oversees the strategic and day‑to‑day management of the library’s Facilities Department, ensuring that facilities, grounds, assets and vehicles are properly maintained, clean, safe and accessible for staff and the community. Responsibilities Direct the maintenance of Tacoma Public Library facilities, grounds, and vehicles. Manage the planning and execution of daily operations and major projects, including construction, renovations and infrastructure improvements. Lead short- and long-term facilities planning, including budget development, project design, permitting, contractor coordination and compliance with applicable codes and standards. Manage Facilities Department staff, including hiring, training, directing work, conducting performance evaluations and recommending discipline. Provide complex construction project management, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external contractors. Ensure alignment of facilities operations and capital projects with organizational goals and community needs. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, construction management, engineering or a related field. Three (3) years of experience in facility management, construction management, engineering or a related field, including one year at a lead or supervisory level. Relevant education and experience may substitute for one another on a year-for-year basis. Licensing, Certification and Other Requirements A valid Washington State Driver’s License at the time of appointment, with ongoing maintenance required. Knowledge of facilities operations, construction management and capital project planning. Familiarity with building codes, permitting processes and safety regulations. Knowledge of construction and building trades such as electrical, mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, painting and HVAC systems. Skills in managing budgets, schedules and multiple concurrent projects. Proficiency in project management tools and software. Leadership and team management skills. Excellent customer service orientation and commitment to delivering high‑quality, value‑added services. Accountability for achieving outcomes; monitoring progress and modelling organizational expectations. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to apply de‑escalation and trauma‑informed approaches when engaging with individuals experiencing crisis.
