Controller

We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations for a real estate business in California while also supporting reporting for a privately held property portfolio. This position partners closely with ownership and requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who can manage accounting activities with precision, sound judgment, and discretion. The ideal candidate brings deep commercial real estate accounting knowledge and is comfortable balancing routine financial operations with higher-level analysis and reporting.Responsibilities:• Oversee daily accounting activities across the business, ensuring financial records are complete, current, and accurately maintained.• Manage the full accounts payable and accounts receivable cycle, including invoice processing, payment coordination, collections, and account balancing.• Review, code, and reconcile company credit card activity and complete monthly bank reconciliations to support accurate reporting.• Produce monthly financial statements and related reporting packages for leadership, highlighting key financial results and account activity.• Prepare weekly cash flow reporting and forecasts to help monitor liquidity and support financial planning decisions.• Administer payroll through Paycom and support related processes, including coordination of benefits and retirement plan activities with external partners.• Prepare annual 1099 filings and work with outside tax advisors by organizing records and providing documentation needed for return preparation.• Track and report on financial activity tied to real estate investments and property holdings, maintaining clear and organized records.• Strengthen accounting workflows and internal controls by identifying process improvement opportunities and implementing practical enhancements.
