Legal Coordinator

Position Summary: The Legal Coordinator research, assigns, and monitors accounts placed for legal action, providing ongoing support throughout the legal process. This role assists with decisions regarding the retention of outside counsel, supports litigation-related activities, maintains vendor relationships, and manages the lifecycle of legal accounts to support recovery efforts, ensure timely resolution, and enhance operational effectiveness. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assign legal accounts and assist with legal account management, recovery efforts, and collection strategy execution. Communicate with attorneys regarding account status updates, company decisions, settlements, legal actions, and account documentation. Monitor legal matters, writ proceedings, repossession activity, and case progression to ensure timely resolution and recovery opportunities. Request, collect, maintain, and provide account records, histories, and documentation related to legal actions and court proceedings. Assign and manage placements with collection agencies, monitor collection activity, evaluate account status, and reassign accounts as needed. Review and approve or decline settlement offers, coordinate credit reporting updates, title releases, and bankruptcy-related account activity. Review attorney invoices, allocate attorney and agency payments, support workflow coordination, and monitor placement volumes and departmental reports. Investigate and manage complex recovery accounts, contact customers regarding delinquent balances, locate collateral, support special projects, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive consumer information. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support departmental or organizational objectives. Required Experience: Minimum two years of collections, recovery, legal support, or related financial services experience. Experience working with attorneys, collection agencies, and recovery-related legal processes. Knowledge of account placement, litigation support, settlement administration, and repossession coordination. Working knowledge of consumer collections regulations and legal recovery practices. Education: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent required. Skills Required Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships with internal and external partners. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities while working independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. Knowledge of FDCPA and applicable collection laws, with flexibility to work overtime as business needs require. Qualifications Preferred: Prior experience in legal collections, recovery operations, or litigation support. Experience managing third-party vendor and attorney relationships. Familiarity with repossession and collateral recovery processes. Experience working within an automotive finance or consumer lending environment. Work Schedule: This position is a hybrid role, requiring in-office presence 2 days per week. The role also requires flexibility to work various shifts to meet business needs, typically between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend availability as needed.
