Travel RN - ICU

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center in Bangor, ME, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience with neuro and trauma backgrounds.

Job Details

• Work in a 26-bed ICU at a 411-bed Level II Trauma Center (the closest trauma center within a 50-mile radius),
• Patient population includes medical, surgical, trauma, neuro, ortho, and interventional ICU patients, as well as DKA and multi-system trauma cases,
• Specialized skills utilized include ICP monitoring, external ventricular drain (EVD) management, spinal precautions, vents, critical care drips, hemodynamic lines, A-lines, chest tubes, stroke care, and rhythm recognition,
• Patient ratio is 1:2 based on acuity, with occasional temporary 1:3 during patient transitions,
• Charting system is Cerner; BD Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing are used,
• Night shift: 7P-7A, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week,
• Every other weekend rotation (Friday and Saturday nights),
• Floating may be required to the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), General PCU, or PICU (if pediatric experience is present), within scope of practice,

Job Requirements

• Active ME or Compact RN license required,
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required,
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required,
• Neuro and trauma ICU experience is required,
• Proficiency with ventilator management, critical care drips, hemodynamic monitoring, A-lines, chest tubes, and EVDs required,
• Full SSN required for consideration,
• Valid driver's license required for consideration,
• Copies of all certifications required for consideration,
• 2 professional references within the past year required; at least one must be from a supervisor, manager, or director (charge nurse acceptable; peer references not accepted),
• Work history must include hospital name, location, number of beds, trauma level, teaching hospital status, and EMR/charting experience,
• All requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed at time of consideration,
• Candidates must not have a permanent address within the state of Maine (candidates residing 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility in Bangor, ME may be considered),
• Candidates who have previously worked as permanent staff at any Northern Light Health facility must wait 3 years before being considered for a travel assignment,

• Provides critical care nursing to a diverse ICU population including trauma, neuro, and multi-system patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment,
• Strong multitasking, calm under pressure, and teamwork skills are essential for this role,
• Support staff includes RT 24/7, PT/OT Monday-Friday, a 24/7 in-house hospitalist, 24/7 intensivist available for consult, trauma surgery for trauma patients, an unassigned charge nurse, and a 24/7 house resource nurse at the ICU level,
• Orientation consists of general hospital orientation followed by 1 day on the unit,
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply,
• COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations are required; medical exemptions only are accepted and subject to facility review (minimum 2-week review period),
• Time off requests are subject to approval; holiday RTO requires special approval, and extended time off may need to be added to the end of the contract,
• Scrubs of any color are permitted, provided they are professional in appearance,
