RIOT is a volunteer-driven nonprofit that uses music creation, critical thinking, and collaborative relationships to foster collective empowerment and healthy identities in girls, women, trans, and gender-expansive youth and adults. Our programs center creative exploration, voice, agency, and community-building. POSITION

RIOT is seeking a part-time contracted Youth Programs Coordinator to lead instruction, planning, logistics, and coordination across our two flagship youth-centered initiatives. This dynamic role blends music teaching, curriculum development, program coordination, and operational leadership.

The position seamlessly shifts responsibilities by season:

• Fall 2026 (AMP’d): Serve as the Head Teaching Artist, leading afterschool music workshops and recording sessions for high school youth in partnership with the Providence Student Union.

• Fall 2026 – Summer 2027 (Youth Rock Camp): Serve as the Camp Coordinator, leading operational planning, volunteer supervision, and logistics for our 5-day summer camp for middle school youth.

This role is ideal for a multi-talented musician-educator and youth-centered organizer who thrives in collaborative environments and is excited to help create joyful, identity-affirming community spaces.

Reports to: RIOT Board of Directors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

AMP’d: Amplifying Music & Power (Fall Program)

• LEAD INSTRUCTION — Act as the program’s lead educator, maintaining consistent, cohesive instruction across the program in partnership with the teaching team.

• TEAM LEADERSHIP — Coordinate and guide two weekly Teaching Artists to ensure consistent, culturally aware instruction.

• CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT — Develop weekly lesson plans aligned with RIOT’s values of empowerment, identity exploration, and process-over-perfection; incorporate accessible, culturally aware, youth-centered teaching approaches.

• PROGRAM LOGISTICS — Collaborate with PSU staff on outreach and recruitment; coordinate weekly logistics, communication, and program flow; support showcase planning and execution.

• GEAR MANAGEMENT — Assist with instrument setup and breakdown to maintain a safe, welcoming, and accessible space.

YOUTH ROCK CAMP (Summer Program)

• OPERATIONS & LOGISTICS — Lead camp planning with the Board, including securing , coordinating site visits, and managing operational timelines.

• PROGRAM PREPARATION — Co-design the daily camp schedule, recruit workshop facilitators, and prepare necessary gear and materials.

• ADMINISTRATIVE & BUDGET — Manage the program inbox, respond to family inquiries, log expenses, and monitor the camp budget categories.

• VOLUNTEER COORDINATION — Manage schedules, roles, shifts, and communication for a team of 20–30 camp volunteers.

• CAMP WEEK LEADERSHIP — Run on-the-ground operations during camp week, including daily staff huddles, safety checks, student transitions, and showcase execution.

• BOARD COMMUNICATIONS — Provide weekly progress updates and surface operational bottlenecks early to ensure smooth execution.

• Model trauma-informed, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive facilitation across all activities

• Foster collaboration, creativity, and identity-affirming community-building across all youth programming.

WHAT YOU BRING

REQUIRED

• Education & Music: Experience teaching music, developing youth curriculums, and strong proficiency in at least one area (guitar, bass, drums, keys, vocals, songwriting, or basic production).

• Logistics & Scheduling: Proven ability to build complex schedules (lessons, camp blocks, volunteer shifts) and manage room setups or space transitions.

• Administration: Proficiency with organizational tools (Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, shared calendars) and managing public-facing communication channels.

• Operations & Budgeting: Experience tracking expenses against categorical limits and troubleshooting last-minute schedule or material shifts.

• Leadership: Experience organizing teams, managing documentation, and meeting tight timelines independently.

• Mission Alignment: Clear commitment to identity-affirming, youth-centered, and anti-oppressive education.

PREFERRED

• Coordinating logistics specifically for youth camps, arts-based events, or community organizing.

• Supervising multidisciplinary volunteer teams.

• Facilitating open studio environments or collaborative music jam sessions.

• Ability to play multiple instruments at a basic to intermediate level 

• Familiarity with trauma-informed and gender-affirming practices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to move dynamically between multiple rooms and work environments.

• Ability to lift musical equipment and supplies up to 40–50 lbs.

• Capacity to maintain energy and focus during fast-paced, active camp days. 

HOURS & COMPENSATION

• Type: Temporary contracted position

• Compensation: $30 / hour (weekly hours are capped to remain within the project’s grant funding)

• Background Check: Final candidates must successfully pass a BCI Check

• Seasonal Hours Breakdown:

• AMP’d (September – December 2026): Estimated 8–10 hours per week for teaching, curriculum work, and outreach. Sessions occur twice weekly after school. Includes limited preparation hours in September. 

• Youth Rock Camp (November 2026 – Summer 2027): Total estimated 170 hours. This averages to ~4 hours per week during the early planning months, increasing as camp approaches, and peaking at ~50 hours during camp week.
