Natural Resources Technician I/II/Senior

Location: Nespelem, WA Salary: $20.34 - $21.62 per hour Reports to: Fisheries Biologist Basic Functions This non‑exempt position involves managing fish and wildlife resources to determine population numbers, environmental conditions, and species condition. The work primarily consists of conducting creel surveys on Rufus Woods Reservoir and other reservation waterbodies. Natural Resources Technician II: Requires a high school diploma or GED and 36 months progressively responsible experience equivalent to Technician I or a related field. Natural Resources Technician Senior: Requires a bachelor’s degree in wildlife, natural resources science, range, or environmental science (transcripts required) OR an associate’s degree in fish, wildlife, and/or natural resources management (transcripts required) AND 24 months of combined education/experience. A two‑year technical degree may substitute for 24 months of experience. Valid Washington state driver’s license; eligibility for tribal vehicle insurance throughout employment; driving record must qualify for a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operators Identification Card. Completion of a Washington State boater safety course within 90 days of employment. Background clearance (tribal and state) maintained throughout employment. Excellent attendance record maintained throughout employment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of tribal fish and wildlife codes, laws, regulations, and procedures. Knowledge of standard fishery assessment techniques and biological data collection. Ability to identify freshwater fish species of the Columbia River basin accurately. Basic equipment repair and routine maintenance skills. Proficiency in computer use for daily data entry. Attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with hand and power tools and proper care of tools. Strong English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation for professional correspondence. Effective human relations skills; ability to work productively in diverse teams. Application of standard fisheries laboratory and field methods to gather data. Effective handling of adverse situations with calm and accurate decision‑making. Ability to collect, compile, and record scientific data. Ability to work independently and follow instructions to completion. Ability to perform arduous tasks including heavy lifting, pulling, and walking over uneven terrain. Visual acuity for reading printed materials; auditory ability for conversations in person and by phone. Manual and finger dexterity for keyboard use; ability to operate a computer or iPad and other standardized office equipment. Capacity to sit or stand for extended periods. Physical ability to walk, bend, stoop, and carry up to 40 pounds. Willingness to travel for meetings, training, and conference participation as necessary. Ability to drive/haul trailers and operate boats in all types of weather. Willingness to work in varying and sometimes remote locations and in adverse weather conditions. Comfortable working on boats and catwalks around swift moving cold water. Drug Testing and Background Position is safety‑sensitive and subject to pre‑employment drug testing.
