Degreed Nutritionist - WIC Program - Full Time/Days - REQ#2117967240

Job Objective The Degreed Nutritionist is responsible for providing counseling and nutrition education for high-risk WIC participants. Responsibilities include enrollments, re-certifications, mid-certifications, trimester checks, and prescribing and issuing food instruments for WIC participants. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct nutrition assessments for WIC participants Evaluate height, weight, and lab values from medical forms Evaluate nutrition questionnaires and prioritize nutrition risks Consult with the Registered Dietitian to develop a care plan Provide nutrition education and counseling based on ISIS-generated risks or participant choice Encourage and support breastfeeding for all pregnant participants Use motivational interviewing techniques and involve participants in counseling Ensure counseling is focused and time spent is appropriate Distribute appropriate pamphlets and referrals Facilitate and conduct group education classes Attend agency meetings to stay current on participant education topics (including driving to alternate clinics) Enter all data, labs, height/weight, and demographic information into ISIS correctly Enter notes in the INEP screen for all enrollments, recertifications, single trimester, and mid-certification checks Ensure notes reflect ISIS-generated nutrition risks and appropriate follow-up plans Include breastfeeding support/encouragement notes on the individual screen for all pregnant participants Document education contacts on the Nutrition Education screen for each participant Place appropriate HOLDS for requests for blood tests, immunization records, medical forms, address, and income verification Ensure all required documents are signed by the participant Maintain ISIS competency and complete enrollments, recertifications, mid-certifications, trimester checks, and disqualifications per WIC Program guidelines Prescribe the correct food package for the participant Schedule correct appointments in the appropriate clinic for the participant Non-Essential Duties Safety Officer Manage Food Instrument order Update nutrition education boards in classrooms Oversee outreach activities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge Excellent customer service skills Excellent command of the English language Skills Ability to speak in public Perform duties in a timely manner Abilities Maintain composure under stressful situations Empathize with participants of the WIC Program Multi-task efficiently Operate a motor vehicle Core Competencies Accountability Action Oriented Customer Focused Compassion Effective Communication Teamwork Ethics & Values Integrity & Trust Education and Experience BS or Master’s Degree in Food Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field Must meet the education requirements stated in the California WIC Program Manual (WPM 130-50) 1 year of experience working in a community nutrition program preferred Required Licensure and/or Certifications BS Degreed Nutritionist must complete 50 continuing education units every 5 years MS Degreed Nutritionist must complete 75 continuing education units every 5 years California driver’s license and current car insurance AVH Conduct/Compliance Expectations Adhere to AVH Leaves of Absence Policy Adhere to AVH Paid Time Off (PTO) Policy Adhere to AVH Recording of Hours Worked Policy Adhere to department dress code Organize work and establish priorities Initiate actions in performance of duties Follow telephone etiquette and standards Conform to AVH Standards of Excellence Function effectively under pressure and meet time parameters Communicate effectively while maintaining good working relationships with coworkers, managers, and other hospital staff Maintain confidentiality of patient, hospital, and department information Adhere to safety rules and regulations Use equipment safely and effectively Interpret and follow hospital and department policies and procedures Conform to Joint Commission requirements Support hospital quality assurance and improvement guidelines Participate effectively in department and hospital staff education Work as a team player Provide highest level of patient/customer satisfaction at all times Support and adhere to the values and mission statement of AVH Board of Directors Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Stand and walk for most of the day Function in noisy, crowded environments Lift and carry up to 15 pounds for short distances Work the schedule required by the needs of the program #J-18808-Ljbffr Antelope Valley Medical Center
