Assistant Director of Development

Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT, Inc.) is a nonprofit arts organization that combines a local community theatre in Missoula, Montana with the world’s largest touring children’s theatre program. MCT produces professionally staged local shows, including children’s musical, revues, showcases, and operas, supported by dedicated volunteers, donors, and patrons. Through its touring program, MCT brings theatre opportunities to nearly 1,200 communities each year across all 50 states, Canada, and overseas, often serving children and families who might not otherwise have access to the performing arts. Touring teams cast tens of thousands of children annually, lead theatre workshops, and present performances to audiences of all ages. MCT is widely recognized for its commitment to using theatre to build community, nurture creativity, and expand access to the arts. Role Description The Assistant Director of Development is a full-time, on-site role based in Missoula, MT, supporting the organization’s fundraising and donor relations activities. This position collaborates with the Director of Development to implement annual giving campaigns, manage donor communications, and support planned giving initiatives. Day-to-day responsibilities include helping to develop and track fundraising strategies, coordinating special events and donor stewardship activities, and assisting with grant writing and reporting. The role also involves maintaining accurate development records, preparing budgets and reports related to philanthropy and fundraising, and working closely with internal teams to align development goals with MCT’s programs. The Assistant Director of Development represents MCT to donors and community partners, promoting the mission and impact of both the touring and local theatre programs. Qualifications Demonstrated experience in fundraising, including Annual Giving and Philanthropy, with ability to build and sustain donor relationships. Knowledge of Planned Giving strategies and practices, with the capacity to support long-term donor engagement and legacy gifts. Competence in Budgeting related to development activities, including tracking campaign performance and preparing financial reports. Understanding of Fundraising principles and techniques, including event-based fundraising and grant support. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in donor outreach, proposals, and impact reporting. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and board members, and to engage with diverse community stakeholders. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, arts administration, communications, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Prior experience in arts, education, or nonprofit sectors is highly beneficial, along with a commitment to MCT’s mission of expanding access to the performing arts. #J-18808-Ljbffr
