Job Summary:

The School-Based MTSS Coordinator is the campus lead responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) across academics, behavior, attendance, and social-emotional learning. This leader ensures the school executes a coherent tiered system (Tier 1/2/3) that is data-driven, equitable, and compliant, aligned to Georgia expectations and local district practices (e.g., Student Support Teams/SST, intervention documentation, progress monitoring, and referral pathways).

Reporting to the Assistant Principal of Scholar Support and partnering closely with grade/content leaders, interventionists, counselors/social workers, and special education staff, the MTSS Coordinator runs the systems: universal screening, data cycles, intervention placement, fidelity checks, progress monitoring, and problem-solving meetings—ensuring scholars receive the right support at the right time and staff are equipped to deliver it consistently. This is the school-level owner of MTSS implementation, while the Regional MTSS Manager provides enablement, coaching, and network coherence.

Job Responsibilities:

MTSS Systems Leadership & Execution - 70%

• Own and execute the school MTSS plan to ensure all scholars receive timely, differentiated supports and remain on a path to a choice-filled life.
• Lead universal screening cycles (academic and/or behavior as applicable), coordinate logistics, ensure administration integrity, and ensure results are available, interpreted, and acted upon quickly.
• Build and maintain intervention pathways for literacy, math, and behavior/SEL supports (Tier 2/Tier 3), including entry/exit criteria, student schedules, staffing, and service delivery expectations.
• Create and maintain MTSS documentation systems (referrals, screening results, intervention plans, parent communication logs, meeting notes, and progress monitoring artifacts).
• Run school-based problem-solving meetings (e.g., SST/MTSS meetings) with clear agendas, roles, timelines, and follow-through; ensure interventions are attempted and documented prior to evaluation referrals when appropriate.
• Manage and monitor progress monitoring trackers; analyze effectiveness, recommend instructional adjustments, and support decisions to intensify, fade, or change interventions.
• Partner with the school schedule owner(s) to protect intervention dosage, ensure consistent minutes per week, and reduce fragmentation of services.
• Coordinate with service providers (e.g., related services, interventionists, counselors) to align supports, share data, and ensure continuity of care.

Intervention Quality, Fidelity & Coaching - 20%

• Execute a consistent coaching/support cycle with interventionists and/or small-group providers to improve fidelity and outcomes (planning, observation, feedback, data reflection).
• Support teachers with Tier 1 strengthening moves (core instruction and differentiation) and Tier 2 classroom supports (small group routines, accommodations, behavior supports), in partnership with instructional leadership.
• Facilitate short-cycle data routines (weekly/biweekly) for Tier 2/Tier 3 providers to ensure timely instructional response and prevent intervention drift.

Compliance, Risk Management & Equity - 10%

• Monitor for district/state compliance of MTSS processes to mitigate risk, including appropriate documentation, timelines, and referral practices.
• Ensure referral pathways are consistent with expectations for MTSS/SST documentation, including high-quality problem identification, intervention integrity evidence, and progress monitoring data.
• Ensure the MTSS system is equitable and bias-aware, including careful review of referral patterns, subgroup access to supports, and disproportionality signals.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree
• Minimum 3–5 years of successful teaching experience with evidence of scholar growth; experience in intervention, data leadership, and/or school-based MTSS coordination strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Tier 1 core instruction, intervention design, progress monitoring, data-based decision-making, and research-aligned MTSS practices.
• Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills; ability to manage both big picture and details, solve complex problems, and implement solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build meaningful relationships quickly; excellent communication and facilitation skills.
• High degree of professionalism and confidentiality when working with sensitive student, staff, and family situations.

Preferred

• Valid Georgia educator certification in Special Education, teaching/leadership and/or advanced training in literacy, math intervention, behavior supports, or special education processes.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating SST/MTSS meetings, maintaining compliant documentation, and partnering with families through intervention cycles.
• Experience implementing evidence-based interventions and using screening/progress monitoring tools to drive placement and instructional decisions.

Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation is competitive and aligned with KIPP Atlanta Schools' leadership salary bands. The salary range for this role is $55,000–$80,000 and is based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. Most new hires are placed in the lower to mid-range of the salary range. Placement near the top of the range is uncommon at hire and reserved for individuals who exceed role qualifications through depth of expertise, leadership maturity, and proven results leading complex initiatives with sustained, organization-level impact.
