Job Title: ID/OD Grinder

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating precision machining equipment, with a strong emphasis on running a Studer CNC OD grinder with Fanuc controls. You will produce high-quality parts by following blueprints and drawings, performing thorough inspections, and making necessary adjustments in accordance with established manufacturing practices and company procedures.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate one or more machining equipment types, including lathes, mills, grinders, drills, hones, hobs, shapers, bevel gear generators, and other assigned machines.
• Specialize in operating Studer CNC OD grinders with Fanuc controls to produce precision components.
• Perform CNC operating tasks, including loading programs, setting offsets, and monitoring machine performance during production runs.
• Carry out manual machining tasks as required, using equipment such as Haas machines and other manual tools.
• Interpret and work from blueprints and drawings to ensure accurate part production to specification.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to set up and inspect parts correctly.
• Use inspection equipment such as calipers and other measuring tools to perform quality checks on finished and in-process parts.
• Make necessary adjustments to machines and processes to maintain quality standards and dimensional accuracy.
• Conduct grinding operations, including centerless grinding and Studer CNC OD grinding, to achieve required finishes and tolerances.
• Follow general manufacturing practices and company policies and procedures during all machining and inspection activities.
• Collaborate with team members, communicate effectively, and contribute to a positive and efficient shop environment.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area, adhering to safety guidelines in a shop environment with active machinery.
• Lift parts and materials up to 50 pounds and bend, stand, or move as needed to perform machining and inspection tasks throughout the shift.

Essential Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work confidently around machining equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings accurately.
• Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and its application in machining and inspection.
• Strong utilization of basic mathematics and geometry for machining setups and measurements.
• Knowledge of a wide variety of inspection equipment and techniques, including calipers and other precision measuring tools.
• Experience operating CNC machines, particularly Studer CNC OD grinders with Fanuc controls.
• Ability to perform grinding operations, including centerless grinding and OD grinding.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend or stand as necessary in a shop environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with manual machining operations and general machining practices.
• Familiarity with Haas machines and basic CNC programming concepts.
• Background in aerospace or other high-precision manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of shop safety practices and quality standards in a machining environment.
• Must be a U.S. person as required for ITAR compliance.

Work Environment

This position operates in a clean, newly renovated shop facility within an aerospace manufacturing setting. The role is on 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 3:30 p.m. to midnight, with overtime shifts running from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The environment involves working around active machinery and requires regular standing, bending, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The facility maintains high standards of cleanliness and organization to support precision machining and safe operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Rockford,IL.
