Access Services Librarian

Job Description

The Samuel C. Williams Library at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for the position of Access Services Librarian. This is a staff position reporting to the Library Director. The successful candidate will oversee the daily operations of library circulation, course reserves, and collection access and security, and will provide interlibrary loan services. The candidate will also develop and implement relevant policies and procedures, assist with reference coverage, and share responsibility for committee and departmental assignments. The candidate will manage 30+ undergraduate and graduate students in Circulation Services and Interlibrary Loan Services and one full-time evening supervisor. Additional duties include performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as assigned. 

Responsibilities: 

● Plan, organize, and coordinate the library’s Circulation Services staff for circulation, reserves, scanners, printers, building maintenance, and related patron services. 

● Provide hiring, scheduling, training, supervision, and support for Circulation Services staffand Interlibrary Loan staff. 

● Provide and supervise Interlibrary Loan services (OCLC Tipasa and RapidILL) for borrowing, lending, and managing delivery services. 

● Collaborate with Information Technology, Office of the Registrar, Student Accounts, and other campus departments as appropriate to maintain accurate Workday and OCLC WMS database information; handle questions and concerns regarding library policies and procedures as needed. 

● Coordinate circulation services for the lending and returning of materials in OCLC WMS. 

● Create, develop, and assess policies regarding access services, including library space and facilities, circulating materials, and OCLC WMS operations, and communicate them to library staff and patrons. 

● Coordinate with Facilities to set up opening hours each semester. 

● Coordinate with the Stevens Campus Police Department to ensure secure facilities. 

● Collect and report annual statistics on circulation access services, interlibrary loan services, and facilities. 

● Provide part-time, scheduled chat and in-person reference coverage, and assist with library instruction as needed. 

● Other duties as assigned. 

● Position hours include weekdays and occasional evening and weekend hours. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

● A Master’s in Library Science (MLS) or Master’s in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution. A second Master’s degree is desirable but not required. 

● 3+ years experience working in a library setting. 

● Supervisory experience. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities, a commitment to collaboration and mutual respect, and the ability to work efficiently and effectively on shared projects and committees in our library and university community. In addition, the successful candidate will have: 

● Significant experience in scheduling and managing student employees or comparable supervisory experience. 

● Strong proficiency with OCLC WMS and Tipasa or similar systems. 

● Experience in assessing areas of access services. 

● Experience with interlibrary loan and resource sharing services. 

● Experience using the Springshare LibAnswers platform for tracking usage statistics. 

● Experience in teaching information literacy instruction, workshops, and providing reference services. 

● Experience providing strong customer service. 

● Proven track record of providing innovative library services. 

● Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. 

● Excellent time management skills. 

● Strong leadership and organizational skills. 

● Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

● Familiarity with emerging topics and technologies that are relevant to academic libraries, such as artificial intelligence, data management, and scholarly communication. 

● Knowledge of trends and developments in higher education. 

● Flexibility to work weekdays and occasional evenings and weekends.

Compensation Range

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $61,700.00 - $84,300.00. This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position’s scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
