Assistant Controller

We are currently looking for an Assistant Controller to join our team in Bloomfield Hills, MI. The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the Controller in managing daily accounting operations, financial reporting and internal controls. Monitoring the accounting department’s financial documents to ensure they are correct and compliant with company procedures. What are the responsibilities of the Assistant Controller? Compile and review monthly financial and cash flow reports. Prepare, analyze, and review semiannual financial statements and consolidations. Train, mentor and evaluate the Corporate accounting staff on current policies and procedures. Assist with tax compliance preparation including sales tax, local income tax and corporate tax. Prepare analysis of cash projections. Ensure that all accounting practices are in compliance with legal guidelines and established accounting principles. Identify solutions to discrepancies in financial records. Prepare Ad hoc reports as requested by management. Assist with forecasting and analyzing cost variances. Other duties as assigned. Leader Responsibilities Act as a positive advocate of the organization’s strategic direction and initiatives, holding the team accountable to displaying the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Lead and take ownership of team goals and performance by providing direction and oversight to team members, planning, and evaluating the team’s activities and deliverables. Identify personal growth opportunities for team members. Lead engagement of the team, including participation in action planning related to regular team member engagement surveys. Accomplish results by communicating expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising performance of team members. Actively participate in the talent attraction and retention process, including interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training team members as the need arises. Provide continuous coaching to team members, counseling as needed. Develop, coordinate, and implement systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards throughout the team. What are the role requirements? Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is required. A minimum of 10 years of experience in private or public accounting is required. A minimum of 5 years of management experience is required. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and thorough understanding of GAAP, as well as the ability to grasp company financial policies and protocols. Pre-existing experience in property management or construction industry is preferred. Experience using Yardi Voyager or related property management software is preferred. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs. Ability to be organized, detail-oriented, and to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with others. Must possess exceptional organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to balance and prioritize simultaneous projects and tasks. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Must demonstrate strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and finish them according to their deadline. Ability to recognize inefficiencies and determine solutions for them. Requires knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, ensuring compliance. Must present the ability to execute job duties under stressful circumstances such as last-minute deadlines or other difficult situations. Maintains a high level of confidentiality. Must be willing to travel to various locations via private or public transportation. Regular attendance, work ethics, and strong interpersonal skills are required for success in this position. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
