Description:
Administers standard respiratory care, including aerosol medication delivery and basic bedside pulmonary function testing.
Provides all aspects of airway management, including aspiration of established airways and tracheostomy care.
May perform pulmonary function testing as needed.
When working in transport, may transport pediatric and neonatal patients per established protocol.
May perform advanced practice procedures including arterial cannulation, IV insertion, chest tube insertion, and needle decompression.
When managing ECMO, may oversee extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support patients.
May be required to be on-call for various shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Performs all aspects of ventilator care, setting up and verifying functions using specialized modes to manage patient conditions.
Provides appropriate monitoring of patients and implements weaning techniques.
Maintains and improves job knowledge and skills.
Serves as a resource for other staff, reflecting experience level.
Aids in training new staff members and students, and provides in-services as required.
May assume charge therapist responsibilities.
Records all pertinent information related to patient care procedures per departmental policies.
Documents patient information in electronic medical record system.
