Research Finance Analyst

Note: This position requires being onsite at least 2 days per month Job Summary Uses experience as a seasoned administrator to independently manage the financial and post‑award components of research, awards and transactions related to contract and grant management. Maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. Works on proposals and awards of diverse scope and manages complex grants and contracts requiring task budgets, option years, multiple investigators and sub‑awards. Guides less experienced staff and collaborates across units. Department Overview The Division of Hematology/Oncology is one of the largest and most complex divisions in the Department of Medicine with a broad research portfolio across multiple campuses. Key Responsibilities Organize, plan, establish and monitor fiscal budget control of contracts, grants, gifts and endowments, ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines. Provide post‑award financial administration, monitor spending, reconcile transactions, and prepare financial reports and invoices. Guide investigators and division management on compliance, interpret policies, and support investigators during proposals. Review award letters and budgets, prepare monthly status reports, and ensure procurement transactions meet funding and policy requirements. Manage and monitor finances of all research accounts, analyze ledgers, create budget projections, and prepare re‑budgeting actions. Initiate and maintain correspondence with OSR and subcontractors, coordinate invoices and close‑out activities. Prepare and approve financial transactions, coordinate payroll distribution and cost transfers, and support audits. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business or related area. 3+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of training and experience. Efficient time‑management and multitasking skills in a high‑volume environment. Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting. Knowledge of general fund accounting, purchasing, budgeting and financial planning. Excellent computer skills, especially MS Excel (sorting, pivot tables, filtering, formulas). Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Proficiency with spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis and reporting. Strong judgment, organization, communication, and customer‑service skills. Strong interpersonal and critical‑thinking skills, with attention to detail. Strong writing skills and ability to present complex financial information clearly. Preferred Qualifications Experience in an academic environment. Knowledge of federal and non‑federal research administration guidelines for a university. Knowledge of compliance requirements for human or animal subjects, conflict of interest, and biosafety.
