Speech Therapist / Speech-Language Specialist

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is: $63,000 to $115,059. Salaries for internal applicants will be based on union negotiated calculations. This position may also be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a retirement plan and benefits for work life balance.

Reports To: Director of Special Services and Building Principal

Position Summary The Speech Therapist (Speech-Language Specialist) provides evaluation, diagnosis, and therapeutic services to students with speech and language disorders. The position ensures compliance with federal and state laws governing special education, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and New Jersey administrative code, while supporting students' communication development and access to a free appropriate public education (FAPE).

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
• Valid New Jersey School Speech-Language Specialist Certificate (required under N.J.A.C. 6A:9B-14.10)
• Knowledge of IDEA, NJ special education code, and service delivery models
• Demonstrated ability to work with students with diverse needs
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Preferred

• Experience in a school-based setting
• Experience with augmentative/alternative communication (AAC)

Requirements

• Criminal history background check (N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.1)
• Compliance with the New Jersey First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7)
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Selection Process

• Final appointment by the East Orange Board of Education in accordance with Board policies

Term of Employment: Ten (10) months

Salary: Shall be in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the East Orange Board of Education and the East Orange Education Association (EOEA).
