Responsibilities include performing intake health assessments, managing urgent care issues, identifying and treating chronic conditions, and collaborating with advanced practice practitioners, nursing staff, and on‑site services such as radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, and laboratory services. The practitioner may coordinate with Harris Health Transfer Center or other local hospitals for higher‑level care and must ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Responsibilities Perform intake health assessments for jail inmates. Provide urgent care and manage acute medical issues. Identify and treat chronic illnesses. Collaborate with advanced practice practitioners and nursing staff. Coordinate care with on‑site services (radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, laboratory). Communicate with Harris Health Transfer Center or local hospitals for higher‑level care. Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Qualifications Degrees and Certification Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) with board certification or board‑eligible status in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. Board certification maintained throughout employment. Resident training: completion of an ACGME‑accredited 3‑year or 4‑year residency program in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. Licensure and Regulatory Valid Texas Medical Board license to practice medicine. Registered physician in the State of Texas. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license, active throughout employment. Communication and Technical Skills Exceptional verbal communication and public speaking ability. Strong written communication, correspondence, and reporting skills. Proficient in computer use. Ability to perform suturing, splinting, and EKG interpretation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Analytical thinking and problem‑solving. Mathematics proficiency. Medical terminology knowledge. Research knowledge and abilities. Work Schedule and Reporting Reports To: Medical Director Flexible scheduling. Holiday schedule. Other Requirements Request for leave must be submitted sixty (60) days in advance for approval. Continuing medical education (CME) requires five business days per year with notice given sixty (60) days in advance for coverage arrangements.
