Position Summary: The Field Coordinator plays a crucial role in the Field Crew program's goal to carry out challenging conservation projects. They are responsible for providing training, education, program coordination, and leadership to ensure a positive and safe experience for all participants. The Field Coordinator will collaborate with District Staff to hire, manage training, and oversee equipment logistics for the regional field crews. Relationships: The South District Field Coordinator reports to the South District Manager and works very closely with the South District Assistant Manager. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide or coordinate required training for members, such as chainsaw classroom and field (in compliance with NWCG standards when applicable), defensive driving, vehicle operation and maintenance, UTV, trailering, tool use and safety, herbicide application, and prescribed burning/wildland fire, and provide project-specific trainings like tree identification and GPS.
• Coordinate field project logistics, such as managing crew schedules, tasks, equipment, and tools, including meals and lodging for out-of-town assignments, and communicating logistics with Project Partners, Crew Leaders, and District Staff.
• Work with crews in the field to provide guidance on technical projects and perform spike camp and emergency response duties as assigned.
• Purchase, maintain, and repair inventory on personal protective equipment, tools,
• Coordinate community service volunteer events and district education/training days.
• Administer CCMI safety program, develop project ERPs, and conduct site safety audits to ensure that crews are working safely and following CCMI Policy.
• Assist with Corpsmember personnel management, including hiring, performance evaluation, and discipline (incident reports, suspension, and termination) in accordance with policies outlined in the Corpsmember handbook in coordination with District Staff.
• Collect, verify, and submit records including personnel paperwork, timesheets, summary of accomplished work reports (SAWs), program and performance evaluations, herbicide reports, vehicle/employee accident reports, and training records.
• Maintain and set up crew phones for Field Specialists and Crew Leaders.
• Administer Work Capacity Test for Corpsmembers.
• Maintain inventory of herbicides/chemicals in Rochester for CCMI and local DNR agencies. Update SDS sheets inventory locations when a new herbicide is purchased/stored.
• Ensure shop space is properly equipped and organized for safe and efficient use.
• Attend and participate in district and organizational meetings to improve programming.
• Represent CCMI at outreach events and job fairs and assist in fundraising efforts. Qualifications:
• Supervisory and programming experience (preferably with the 18-35 age group) and ability to problem solve and respond competently to situations associated with managing young adults.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal personnel management and external outreach.
• Initiative to act independently with minimal supervision and ability to multi-task and be flexible with responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience in coordinating and facilitating training.
• Working knowledge of natural resource project management, such as trail maintenance and construction, shoreline/watershed restoration, forest/prairie management, and wildlife habitat improvement, including the use of herbicides.
• Proven ability to work effectively with, interact with, and communicate with individuals coming from diverse backgrounds and communities.
• Familiarity with AmeriCorps and local, state, and federal natural resource agencies.
• Experience with hand and power tools, tree felling and chainsaw operations, and mechanical and construction skills.
• Experience with maintenance of equipment, including power saws and hand tools.
• Experience with the use of trucks, trailers, and UTVs both on and off-road.
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
• Ability to pass DOT physical.
• Must meet minimum physical requirements and successfully pass annual work capacity test at the moderate or arduous level.
• Current WFA/CPR certificate or completed within 6 months.
• RxB3 certification is preferred or obtained within 3 years.
• NWCG Faller 2 certification or obtain certification within 6 months.
• Four-year degree in a related field is preferred. Additional Information: Travel and overnights are required for Corpsmember training, staff meetings, and outreach events. This position requires significant time at all crew locations, with occasional out-of-town travel for up to 12 days to assist crews with technical projects. The Field Coordinator must also be available for occasional 30-day disaster deployments. While this position is based in Rochester, the employee will spend considerable time out of town in February for program-wide training and orientation. Lodging accommodation is provided.
