Assistant Professor / Associate Professor - Early Childhood and Childhood Education (ECCE) The Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education (ECCE) at Lehman College, City University of New York, invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in literacies. Candidates should have a focus on how technology and digital literacies influence children’s development or a related field. The role is not remote; consistent on‑campus engagement is required. Position Responsibilities Faculty are expected to foster a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive environment and to uphold high ethical standards in teaching, research, and service. Specific responsibilities include: Maintain a teaching load of 18 credits per 9‑month academic year across undergraduate and graduate courses in child development, pedagogical foundations, and methods of literacies, delivered on campus and online. Develop and deliver courses in multiple instructional modalities, including humanities and digital literacies, appropriate for the child development age range. Maintain an active research agenda, including professional scholarship, presentations, and grantsmanship. Assist with continuous program improvement and accreditation (AAQEP compliance). Provide academic advisement, program and course development, and support student recruitment, application review, and admissions processes. Collaborate with faculty and staff across departments to advance interdisciplinary and sponsored program initiatives. Pursue external funding opportunities to support research, program innovation, and continuous improvement. Develop and maintain articulation agreements and partnerships with community colleges. Engage in service to the university, college, school, and department through committee membership and other professional contributions. Assist with program hiring, staffing, mentoring, and supervision of part‑time and adjunct faculty. Perform other related duties as assigned to support program and institutional goals. Qualifications Required Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or a closely related field from an accredited university. Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate‑level teaching, including foundation courses in education and teaching methods courses, through in‑person and online modalities. Experience teaching in educational settings that serve teachers and children. At least five years of teaching experience in elementary schools with diverse populations, including multilingual students. Strong commitment to social justice, anti‑racism, anti‑oppression, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ongoing record of scholarship. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially as a team member. Preferred Experience teaching courses in childhood development, pedagogical/curriculum development, and methods of literacies, including digital literacies and/or social studies. Experience in program development, curriculum and assessment design, infusing digital literacies and technologies across the curriculum. Experience in assessment, recruitment, and/or advisement.
