Senior Director, Shared Services

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Director, Shared Services, based in our Foster City headquarters, will lead the strategy, evolution, and delivery of the Company’s global shared services organization. This leader will be responsible for building and operating a scalable, high-performing service model that supports the continued growth and complexity of a global, publicly traded commercial biotechnology company.

Reporting to SVP Controller, this role will have responsibility for global shared services across Procure-to-Pay, Payroll, Travel & Expense, Stock Administration, Master Data, banking and payment operations, and selected transactional accounting activities.

The successful candidate will combine deep shared services experience with strong operational, transformation, technology, and people leadership capabilities. This individual will partner closely with Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Tax, IT, Compliance, and other functions to improve service delivery, simplify and automate processes, strengthen controls, and create a scalable global operating model.

JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead global service delivery across Procure-to-Pay/Accounts Payable, Payroll, Travel & Expense, Master Data, banking and payment operations, and selected transactional accounting and close-support activities.
• Lead the Company’s global stock administration function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant administration of equity compensation programs with oversight of equity transactions, administration systems, operational controls, reconciliations, employee support, and relationships with brokers, transfer agents, and other service providers.
• Establish service levels, performance metrics, governance, and continuous improvement processes focused on quality, efficiency, controls, scalability, and the internal customer experience.
• Drive global process standardization, simplification, and automation.
• Build, develop, and retain a high-performing global team with a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Lead process redesign, automation, digital enablement, and technology improvements across Global Shared Services, including effective use of workflow tools, analytics, and emerging AI capabilities.
• Partner with IT and functional leaders to optimize ERP, payroll, equity administration, and other enabling systems.
• Maintain a strong control environment appropriate for a U.S. publicly traded company, including SOX compliance, segregation of duties, payment controls, reconciliations, access controls, and appropriate documentation.
• Serve as a trusted partner to senior leaders across the organization on operational scalability, service delivery, controls, and organizational design.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education /Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline; advanced degree or relevant professional certification preferred.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in global shared services, finance operations, accounting operations, or related functions, including significant senior leadership experience.
• Prior leadership experience in a comparable Shared Services or Global Business Services role within a public company with at least $1 billion in annual revenue.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-process operations across multiple countries, legal entities, and functional stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of the financial reporting, internal control, and SOX requirements of a U.S. publicly traded company.
• Experience overseeing or partnering closely with stock administration/equity operations, with direct stock administration leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated success leading process standardization, transformation, automation, and technology-enabled change.
• Experience with major ERP, payroll, equity administration, and related enterprise platforms.
• Experience managing outsourced service providers and other strategic third-party relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing global teams and influence senior stakeholders across organizational boundaries.
• Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or another highly regulated industry strongly preferred.

The salary range for this position is $280,000 to $300,000 USD. Compensation will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to; skill set, years of experience, and the employee’s geographic location.
