Hiring for a Construction Laborer in Pleasant View, TN

Job Description

This role supports construction activities on a residential dirt work project by performing a variety of manual labor tasks. You will help prepare and maintain the job site, assist operators and crews, and handle materials and tools to ensure work progresses safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Lay out and staple down straw matting across designated areas of the job site.
• Break down and spread gravel as directed to support grading and site preparation.
• Shovel dirt, gravel, and other materials to assist with excavation and backfilling.
• Move materials, tools, and equipment around the site to ensure crews have what they need.
• Assist with laying pipe, including PVC and other utility piping, under the direction of experienced workers.
• Support equipment operators by spotting, clearing work areas, and helping with setup and cleanup.
• Perform general construction labor tasks such as basic concrete work and site clean-up.
• Use basic hand tools safely and correctly for cutting, fastening, and assembling materials.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining safety and productivity.
• Follow all site safety rules, wear appropriate PPE, and help keep the work area organized and hazard-free.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience performing manual labor in a construction or similar environment.
• At least 1 year of experience working on a construction project.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as shoveling, lifting, and carrying materials throughout an 11-hour workday.
• Experience using basic hand tools in a work setting.
• Comfort working outside in the elements in a variety of weather conditions.
• Ability to follow instructions from supervisors and work effectively as part of a construction crew.
• Reliability and willingness to work overtime as needed Monday through Friday.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with underground utilities or pipe work is a plus.
• Experience with PVC pipe installation or related pipe work is preferred.
• Experience in general construction labor, including concrete and dirt work, is beneficial.
• Familiarity with utility projects or residential neighborhood construction sites is an advantage.
• Openness to working occasional Saturdays to make up for weather-related delays.

Work Environment

The role is based on an active construction job site focused on dirt work for a new residential neighborhood in the Pleasant View, TN area (Derby Meadows). You will work primarily outdoors on uneven terrain, around heavy equipment and construction materials. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with 11-hour workdays and substantial overtime; Saturday work may be required to make up days lost to rain. Work is performed in all weather conditions, so you must be comfortable working in heat, cold, and rain with appropriate workwear and PPE. This job site will be the primary work location initially, and upon successful performance there may be opportunities to transition to other nearby projects, typically north of Nashville such as Portland, TN.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pleasant View, TN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
