Anesthesia Technician, Operative Services Anesthesiology (per diem)

Position: Anesthesia Technician, Operative Services Anesthesiology Location: Brighton, MA Schedule: Per diem, On-site Job Summary The Anesthesia Technician assists the anesthesia team before, during, and after patient procedures in operating rooms across BMC‑Brighton. The role involves maintaining and restocking anesthesia supplies and equipment, responding to codes, checking and replacing anesthesia gas tanks, disassembling used equipment, disinfecting machines and carts, replacing products, and placing transducers for invasive hemodynamic monitoring. The position includes significant patient contact while assisting in transport and procedures and works collaboratively with anesthesia, nursing staff, and off‑site resources. Responsibilities Serve as the primary assistant to anesthesia during procedures in the Operating Room at various locations (Endo, Labor & Delivery, PACU, etc.). Pre‑operative: Ensure anesthesia carts and machines are fully supplied and functional before surgery begins; check and replace anesthesia gas tanks; retrieve requested supplies; prepare equipment for hemodynamic monitoring; troubleshoot and correct machine issues; conduct daily equipment inspections. Intra‑operative: Maintain readiness of cell saver or rapid infuser for blood products; assist with patient positioning for spinal anesthesia; dress and secure IVs and arterial lines; assist intubation and extubation; restock used supplies; dispose of contaminated materials and disinfect equipment. Post‑operative: Clean and disinfect anesthesia equipment; package and store used materials; inventory and reorder supplies; run errands as directed; troubleshoot equipment and report faults to clinical engineering. Support emergency codes; assist with quarterly maintenance of anesthesia equipment; maintain IV solution supplies; disinfect bronchoscopes; change soda lime canisters; manage bio‑hazard disposal; teach team members; assure equipment returns to proper locations; aid in surgical suite cleaning. Report safety concerns, equipment issues, and scheduling impacts to appropriate staff. Requirements High‑school graduate or equivalent (graduate anesthesia technology program preferred). One year of anesthesia technology experience in a multi‑disciplined OR in an acute care setting preferred; alternatively, one year as a Certified Nursing Assistant in critical care or step‑down unit. Current BLS certification required; anesthesia technician certification preferred. Strong mechanical skills, ability to work independently, excellent interpersonal skills, adaptability, and adherence to universal precautions. Proficiency in inventory management, equipment troubleshooting, and maintaining sterile supplies. Compensation & Benefits Compensation Range: $20.31 – $30.18 per hour, based on qualifications.
