Staff Accountant

Staff AccountantSmithville Communications is looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Staff Accountant to join our Accounting Operations team. In this on-site role, you will provide vital financial and administrative support across our family of companies, helping to keep our day-to-day financial operations running accurately and on time. You will be a regular collaborator across the organization, connecting daily with the Accounting Manager and the Accounting Operations team, weekly with the Controller and Finance teams, and at least monthly with the CFO and other key departments including IT, Engineering, and Outside Plant.What You'll DoPerform daily cash balancing, manage cash flow, and reconcile multiple bank accounts across all Smithville companiesProvide support and backup coverage for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functionsPrepare monthly journal entries and complete balance sheet reconciliationsAdminister and oversee the corporate credit card programGenerate financial reports, file tax returns, and take on special projectsSupport miscellaneous financial tasks, special projects, and other responsibilities as assignedWhat You BringBachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent professional experience3 to 5 years of accounting experience completing account reconciliations, journal entries, and/or variance analysisSolid understanding of standard business practices and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel proficiencyExperience managing cash across multiple companies and bank accountsStrong ability to reconcile, research, and analyze accounting recordsHigh attention to detail with a commitment to accuracyStrong interpersonal and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsReliable project management skills with the ability to work to deadlinesA methodical and analytical mindsetWork EnvironmentThis position is performed on-site in Ellettsville, Indiana, almost entirely indoors in a climate-controlled, open office environment with moderate noise levels.You will typically work a standard 40-hour week, with occasional evenings or weekends needed to meet critical deadlines or respond to time-sensitive matters.The role requires continuous use of fine motor skills, sustained sitting, and close vision. You will frequently talk and listen throughout the workday.Occasionally, the role may involve walking, twisting, reaching at or below shoulder level, and lifting items up to 15 pounds.
