Schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Rotating every third weekend
Role Overview:
As a Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you'll be at the heart of diagnostic and therapeutic excellence at Henry Ford Rochester Hospital. Working under physician direction and radiologist supervision, you'll utilize cutting-edge nuclear medicine technology to deliver precise diagnostic imaging and treatment procedures. Your expertise, independent judgment, and commitment to patient-centered care directly impact patient outcomes and advance our hospital's mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Communication
- Prioritize exceptional patient experiences by maintaining a positive, professional atmosphere and demonstrating empathy for patients who may be experiencing physical or emotional stress
- Conduct thorough patient consultations—explaining procedures, providing detailed preparatory instructions, and addressing patient concerns with clarity and compassion
- Perform rigorous two-step patient identification protocols before administering radionuclides, ensuring absolute accuracy and safety
- Collaborate seamlessly with nursing personnel and physicians, gathering and exchanging critical patient information to optimize care coordination
- Schedule patient appointments and provide comprehensive preparatory guidance to patients, physician offices, and nursing units
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and accommodate religious and personal preferences while adjusting communication and care approaches based on individual patient needs and cognitive abilities
Technical Expertise & Procedure Execution
- Prepare radionuclides with precision according to physician orders and departmental protocols
- Administer isotope injections under radiologist supervision and execute ordered scans using advanced imaging cameras, computer systems, and diagnostic imagers
- Assist in equipment calibration and radioisotope assay operations to maintain peak performance
- Contribute to the development of technical factors, equipment specifications, and imaging protocols
- Assume responsibility for designated procedure areas and mentor new employees and students in areas of specialized competence
Safety, Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Champion radiation safety by adhering to all prescribed safety standards and maintaining a contamination-free environment across all department spaces, equipment, and personnel
- Maintain meticulous daily quality control logs for all instruments and monitor incoming radionuclide shipments with vigilance
- Manage comprehensive records of radioisotope receipts, usage, storage, and disposal in full compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and state agency requirements
- Monitor the department continuously for contamination and ensure strict adherence to all applicable licensing agency regulations
- Serve on Quality Assurance committees and contribute to radiation safety initiatives as requested
- Report equipment failures or malfunctions promptly to designated service providers and escalate unresolved issues to Radiology Supervisors or Directors
- Maintain current Continuing Education Credits as required by SNM or other governing agencies
Operational Excellence & Team Collaboration
- Order radionuclides and supplies strategically to support patient procedures and departmental needs
- Maintain impeccable organization and cleanliness standards across all department areas, ensuring equipment and workspaces remain secure and contamination-free
- Secure and properly return all supplies and equipment, handling them with professional responsibility
- Foster positive, collaborative relationships with all department personnel, contributing to a cohesive and professional work environment
- Perform varied clerical and administrative tasks as needed to support departmental operations
- Maintain professional appearance and grooming standards in accordance with Radiology Department policies
Qualifications
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
Required Credential(s):
• Must possess and maintain a valid nuclear medicine registration from credentialing bodies such as the ARRT, Society of Nuclear Medicine or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) at time of hire/transfer date required.
Education:
• High school graduate.
Work Experience:
• One (1) year of full-time experience in clinical Nuclear Medicine Imaging is preferred.
• Special demands include promptness, accuracy, patience, courtesy, understanding of patients needs and rigid adherence to safety and quality control.
