Job Description

Location: Henry Ford Rochester Hospital

Schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Rotating every third weekend

Role Overview:

As a Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you'll be at the heart of diagnostic and therapeutic excellence at Henry Ford Rochester Hospital. Working under physician direction and radiologist supervision, you'll utilize cutting-edge nuclear medicine technology to deliver precise diagnostic imaging and treatment procedures. Your expertise, independent judgment, and commitment to patient-centered care directly impact patient outcomes and advance our hospital's mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care & Communication

  • Prioritize exceptional patient experiences by maintaining a positive, professional atmosphere and demonstrating empathy for patients who may be experiencing physical or emotional stress
  • Conduct thorough patient consultations—explaining procedures, providing detailed preparatory instructions, and addressing patient concerns with clarity and compassion
  • Perform rigorous two-step patient identification protocols before administering radionuclides, ensuring absolute accuracy and safety
  • Collaborate seamlessly with nursing personnel and physicians, gathering and exchanging critical patient information to optimize care coordination
  • Schedule patient appointments and provide comprehensive preparatory guidance to patients, physician offices, and nursing units
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and accommodate religious and personal preferences while adjusting communication and care approaches based on individual patient needs and cognitive abilities

Technical Expertise & Procedure Execution

  • Prepare radionuclides with precision according to physician orders and departmental protocols
  • Administer isotope injections under radiologist supervision and execute ordered scans using advanced imaging cameras, computer systems, and diagnostic imagers
  • Assist in equipment calibration and radioisotope assay operations to maintain peak performance
  • Contribute to the development of technical factors, equipment specifications, and imaging protocols
  • Assume responsibility for designated procedure areas and mentor new employees and students in areas of specialized competence

Safety, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Champion radiation safety by adhering to all prescribed safety standards and maintaining a contamination-free environment across all department spaces, equipment, and personnel
  • Maintain meticulous daily quality control logs for all instruments and monitor incoming radionuclide shipments with vigilance
  • Manage comprehensive records of radioisotope receipts, usage, storage, and disposal in full compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and state agency requirements
  • Monitor the department continuously for contamination and ensure strict adherence to all applicable licensing agency regulations
  • Serve on Quality Assurance committees and contribute to radiation safety initiatives as requested
  • Report equipment failures or malfunctions promptly to designated service providers and escalate unresolved issues to Radiology Supervisors or Directors
  • Maintain current Continuing Education Credits as required by SNM or other governing agencies

Operational Excellence & Team Collaboration

  • Order radionuclides and supplies strategically to support patient procedures and departmental needs
  • Maintain impeccable organization and cleanliness standards across all department areas, ensuring equipment and workspaces remain secure and contamination-free
  • Secure and properly return all supplies and equipment, handling them with professional responsibility
  • Foster positive, collaborative relationships with all department personnel, contributing to a cohesive and professional work environment
  • Perform varied clerical and administrative tasks as needed to support departmental operations
  • Maintain professional appearance and grooming standards in accordance with Radiology Department policies
