Management Support Specialist – Overview The Management Support Specialist will serve in a developmental role providing administrative management support to Departments, Programs, or Offices within the museum. In This Position, You Will Provide administrative and operational support to the Unit on research program activities. Provide administrative and program support to the Unit Head by preparing reports and compiling data. Arrange travel for staff, including preparing authorizations, itineraries, and vouchers using the Smithsonian travel system. Provide support for procurement activities by assisting staff with required documentation and preparing purchase request packages. Assist in the preparation of budgets, spending plans, and projections by compiling and organizing financial data. Requirements Conditions of employment: Pass pre‑employment background investigation May need to complete a probationary period Maintain a bank account for direct deposit/electronic transfer Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with Selective Service Qualifications Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS‑07 level in the Federal Service, defined as providing programmatic administrative and operational support (procurement, financial reconciliations, logistics, property management, travel arrangements, record keeping, and other operational functions). Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s or equivalent degree related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements.
