About the Position

Job Title: Surgical Short Stay RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years of Medical Surgical experience License: Nursing License Certifications: ACLS and BLS Must-Have: Short stay experience required Charge experience preferred EPIC experience preferred Description: Surgical Short Stay is a 12-bed unit that cares for adult surgical patients. Most of the patients are admitted from the PACU and stay less than 24 hours. We also care for pre-op patients and inpatient surgical admissions when needed. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6. Contract staff will be expected to work as part of a team during catastrophic events or disasters. Contract staff may be required to report to work during these events. Staff may float to inpatient surgery floors, inpatient holding areas, or potentially medical floors as needed. Every other weekend is required, totaling 12 weekend night shifts per contract. Patients represent a range of functional statuses and surgical conditions across multiple service lines, including, but not limited to, colorectal, endoscopic, general, gynecologic, maxillofacial, neurologic, orthopedic, plastic, urologic, and vascular. Special equipment used includes Continuous Bladder Irrigation, Doppler ultrasound, infusion systems, JP drains, and wound vac systems. Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. Additional skills such as acute care, telemetry, wound care, and various management protocols are necessary.
