HVAC-R Mechanic I

Maintenance Technician

Under the direction of the Senior Project Manager and Supervisor Maintenance & Construction, performs a variety of maintenance repairs and installation/replacement of fixtures including supply systems, DWV system, plumbing, heating and steam fixtures/equipment. Assists in the work direction of other mechanics and trades helpers.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

• Operates, maintains, repairs and installs heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment "HVAC/R" as well as controls ancillary equipment and support systems.
• Responds to HVAC/R trouble calls and requests within the facilities, using hard tools, power tools analyzing equipment and testing instruments.
• Performs routine maintenance, preventive maintenance and inspections on HVAC/R equipment and related equipment/systems.
• Prepares, maintains and submits to the Senior Project Manager and Supervisor Maintenance & Construction requisitions for material, work orders, required records and reports, pertaining to HVAC/R equipment/systems.
• Maintains a daily log and information pertaining to work performed and time spent.
• Interprets data from the Power Plant, mechanical systems, control systems, energy management systems and shift log, taking action and making the Senior Project Manager and/or Supervisor of Maintenance & Construction aware of the appropriate action taken, when necessary.
• Prepares or works from sketches, plans, specifications, in accordance with HVAC/R standards.
• Analyzes situations requiring the modification or repair of facility equipment/systems and makes recommendations for same.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

Required:

• Technical school diploma or an equivalent level of knowledge plus five (5) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and installation of HVAC/R equipment, in an industrial, education and/or healthcare setting.
• Sound knowledge of blueprint and schematic reading is required, as is thorough knowledge of all applicable (local, state and national) codes.
• Valid Driver's License is required.
• Minimum requirement of Type II, EPA Certificate, 40-CFR, Part 82, Subpart F

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is OH/2400: $36.72 - $37.22 - $38.33 per hour. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs. The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
