Student Assistant - Golden West College 2025/2026 Academic Year

Overview Student Assistants work in a college or district department and perform duties appropriate to their level—Entry, Intermediate, or Specialist. Roles and Responsibilities Student Assistant I – Entry Level / Semi‑skilled : Work under immediate supervision; routine and repetitive tasks; use of equipment and software according to established procedures. Student Assistant II – Intermediate / Advanced : Work under general supervision; tasks are less routine and require moderate judgment; use of data systems and confidential information; requires a minimum of one year of prior experience in a similar role. Student Assistant III – Specialist / Lead : Work under general supervision; broad responsibilities with significant independent judgment; may direct lower‑level student employees; requires a minimum of two years of prior experience. Education and Experience Student Assistant I: Little or no prior experience or education required. Student Assistant II: Some previous knowledge, experience, or education required. Student Assistant III: Prior experience, education, or specialized skills required. Skills and Competencies Ability to perform the assigned job tasks. Limited independent judgment and decision‑making appropriate to the level. Capacity to balance work responsibilities with academic commitments. Qualifications Must be a full‑time student enrolled in a minimum of 12 units at one of the three colleges within the Coast Community College District (OCC, GWC, CCC). Work Hours and Conditions Maximum of 19.5 hours per week during fall and spring semesters; up to 28 hours per week outside of these semesters. Students may not be employed by the District in any other capacity during the same fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). Student Assistants are at‑will employees; no entitlement to benefits. Regular attendance is an essential job function; failure to meet attendance requirements may preclude continued employment. Employment is contingent upon verification of class schedule, background verification, and eligibility to work in the United States.
