Golden West College Student Employment Program

Golden West College (GWC) is located in Huntington Beach, California, and is known for its beautiful campus and high academic quality. GWC offers a Student Employment Program that provides students with temporary employment opportunities to earn money, gain on-the-job experience, and combine their academic study with work.

The Student Employment Program includes roles such as General-Student Assistant, Federal Work-Study Student Assistant, and CalWORKs Work-Study Student Assistant. The program aims to create a culture of inclusive excellence by providing flexible job assignments that align with students' academic and career goals.

Student Assistants perform duties that range from unskilled to skilled and specialized, with work assignments determined by the needs of the respective department. The program offers three levels of student assistant positions:

• Student Assistant I Entry level/Semi-skilled: Work is under immediate supervision with standardized duties.
• Student Assistant II Intermediate/Advanced: Work is under general supervision with varied and less routine assignments.
• Student Assistant III Specialist/Lead: Work is under general supervision with a broad variety of skills and tasks.

To qualify for a student assistant position, students must be full-time and enrolled in a minimum of 12 units at one of the three colleges within the Coast Community College District (OCC, GWC, CCC). Skills required include limited independent judgment and the ability to balance work and studies.

Student Assistants are not part of the classified service and are not benefits eligible. They may not exceed 19.5 working hours per week during the fall and spring semesters and may work a maximum of 28 hours per week outside of these semesters. Employment is contingent upon verification of class schedule, employment history, background verification, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees.
